Do you believe in eating the placenta after child birth?

Well? Do you?

Sure. Why not? It is healthy, it provides a lot of nutrients to the mother which is then passed down to the child which can help early on with proper diets and what-not. Most mothers eat their placenta after child birth to get essential nutrients they lost while pregnant, so it's normal to want to do that if you are a human. It is just your instincts, however gross they may be.

@ altarion: I think you must be posting from an earlier era. "Most mothers"? really?? I know quite a few mothers, even the mother of my own children, and this has never come up. Not only that, but I believe I can safely state that not one of them would ever - EVER - consider eating the placenta from their childbirth!

Side: No

Actually there's a good recipe for it on the internet somewhere. Google it, I'm sure you'll find it ;)

Nothing quite like cold placenta sandwiches the next day.

Actually left over placenta is not very good. It just isn't the same if it's not fresh ;)

I read a good article saying that you can put it in a blender and make placenta smoothie! (;

I believe the practice exists if that's the question...

If it's a question of whether I would want someone I know or myself to do it, absolutely not. Eat a sandwich and take a vitamin if you need nutrients.

Side: yes

Uh, I guess? I don't have anything against it, certainly, but I doubt it's a practice that I would ever engage in.

I mean, I hate to be immature or close-minded, but ewwwwww.

I'm just going to post on this side because I've never heard of women doing this. For any nutrients, etc, she can take vitamins and have a balanced diet. Placenta not needed. Ew....

Side: No

I see no logical or health reason to do this. In some countries it may be a matter of tradition but not here...or so I believe!

Well in some countries they burry the female babies to die in the desert, but that isn't necessarily acceptable is it? So why is it ok for someone to eat the placenta because it is their culture? Why do we insist on changing some cultural traditions, but not all of them? o_O
