Do you need acceleration to sustain a wheelie?

Yes

Not a expert in physics, but the speed and acceleration of the bike makes the bike seem lighter due to the center of gravity. The center of gravity on a bike is towards the middle back, which allows the rider to sustain a wheelie.

Yes in order for you to be successful.

I try and wheelie up all hills cause once its up, it is easier to get up that mountain every morning, going down hill on the backwheel needs no acceleration as gravity and balance supply accelaration

Side: Yes

So far I seen it with my own eyes that way.

No. The proper balance is required to sustain a wheelie and it is posiible to slow down, stop and continue again while maintaining a wheelie. This is true at least on a bicycle.

LOL, right, that whole other side must have never done BMXing.

I have tried doing tricks on a bike. I indeed learned that speed is only necessary when you want to ride with no hands for a period of time but I have gone sort of slow and maintained balance without using my hands. A wheelie does not always require speed. However on a sports bike I think keeping your bike in balance is necessary if someone wants to do random tricks like standing on their bike or sitting backwards or laying down on their bike.
