Do you take sexting seriously? If not, maybe you should. Here's why...
Phillip Alpert found out the hard way. He had just turned 18 when he sent a naked photo of his 16-year-old girlfriend, a photo she had taken and sent him, to dozens of her friends and family after an argument. The high school sweethearts had been dating for almost 2½ years. "It was a stupid thing I did because I was upset and tired and it was the middle of the night and I was an immature kid," says Alpert.
Orlando, Florida, police didn't see it that way. Alpert was arrested and charged with sending child pornography, a felony to which he pleaded no contest but was later convicted. He was sentenced to five years probation and required by Florida law to register as a sex offender.
For Alpert, life is not easy as a registered sex offender, a label he will carry until the age of 43. He's been kicked out of college, he cannot travel out of the county without making prior arrangements with his probation officer, he has lost many friends and is having trouble finding a job because of his status as a convicted felon. He says he feels terrible about sending the photo of his ex-girlfriend, especially since they were once so close.

As usual I'm utterly confused by your categories, so I'm just picking a side and posting. This is getting out of control. That kid did not do anything that warrants being labeled a "sex offender." If they're both kids, then it's not pedophilia. And every single person involved in this case, and allowed it to procede to the point where this poor kids life is basically ruined over some picks, is an idiot and should be separated from the general public and not allowed to breed. Sure, it sucks, and the girls a little embarassed, and the kid should have gotten like a week suspension or something. But labeled as a sex offender until he's 43? are you effing kidding me? If it was some old dude, selling kiddie pics on the internet, I say castrate him, but this is a kid. Most kids are having sex with eachother way before the legal age, get over it. Well I've never taken a naked picture or received one. I don't plan on either of these two... Ever. If I ever get one, I'll probably just delete it, seeing as the only people that send them are significant others. And if I'm THAT desperate to see my girlfriend naked, wouldn't it be better in person than on a phone? Side: Nah, it only happens to others
