Does CD need heavier moderation?
I've been picking through a couple of the newest debates and some of the stuff that's been going on. (I.E. the downvoting and upvoting craze in the debate about pot... by completely new members. Seems kind of odd to me?)
Not to mention the dumb debates that serve no purpose. That or the debates for ego stroking. I mean, I don't want CD to turn into an elitist community, but I sure as hell don't want it to turn into a trollsite.

The problem with new members, no offense, is that they downvote everything that opposes them. And I admit I was even a culprit to this when I first joined... I regret it, of course, and don't do it anymore. New members just don't really care about their scores, especially those who probably joined just to bash me on the pot debate but will never debate in anything else. :) I like my original fix to the downvoting problem: respond with a mandatory response explaining why you had downvoted. That would've allowed for us to maintain the necessary downvoting, while getting rid of the frivolous downvoting. Side: yes
