Does Colin Powell's Decision To Back Barack Obama Influence You In Any Way?

*Does This Endorsement Change Yours?*

Some people have been waiting for Colin Powell's decision to endorse a candidate. Colin Powell is, after all, a military man and knows the history of both candidates well. Now that he has crossed party lines and endorsed Barack Obama, does this alter any decision you've made or put you in a position of examining it a bit more closely?

Yes, a little bit. I was already supporting Obama before anyway, so this just helped confirm that I'm not the only semi-Republican supporting Obama out there.

I'm sorry I could not, for some reason get the video embedded for us. If someone else can and include it on their post, I would be most appreciative.

Yes, it changes my view insofar as former Secretary of State Powell's endorsement solidifies my opinion of Barack Obama and brings it to a greater level of support for him. After all, Colin Powell is a military man and knows both candidates well. McCain's platform centerpiece; The war in Iraq, Afghanistan and the search for Osama bin Laden has all but been rendered null and void with this endorsement. I trust this decisiion will put Obama over the top, so to speak, as far as people who were undecided and even those who have been staunch in their support of John McCain, to think further on their choice or bring them to a final decision should they have been undecided thus far.

Thank you Jess...that's the one I was trying for. So happy you've been able to do it...XXOOXX!

Yes, it does influence my opinion of Obama. Before I wasn't sure if he was a shill of the aristocracy, now I'm almost certain. Obama, the "anti-war" candidate, not only accepted the endorsement of the figure head for the lies that got us into this war, he offered Powell an advisory role when he takes office. This really shows Obama's priorities. He doesn't want to stop this illegal war, he just wants to change strategies. "Change" my ass.

Hi adpopulum! Wow, it's so interesting how people see others. If I were President I would offer Colin Powell any position in my cabinet for I believe him to be a moderate Republican and I do think he's as honest and smart as can be! I have liked him from day one and think he's a fine addition...I had wished, several years ago, that he would have run for high office for I would have voted for him in a heartbeat. Why are you so sour on him, if I may ask?

I agree with you that people's views are interesting. I don't, however, agree with you that Powell is a honest person. He may be a good military leader but calling him honest is contrary to everything we've discovered about the build up to the Iraq war. He lied about WMD, he lied about Nigerian yellow cake, he lied when he tried to scare with his vials of death, he lied about the mobile nuclear reactors. And the whole time they all had intelligence that disproved those lies. Now we are stuck in a costly, illegal war with no end that destroyed a nation and inflamed the region. To this day he has not apologized nor even acknowledged the lie. He ruined his credibility and has been making it worse ever since.

Not really. Really, it's the smartest political decision Collen Powell has made in this election.

1. He is upset with the Bush Administration on how they treated him. He didn't like Donald Rumsfeld, but they still listened to him, and he feels that is what caused Iraq to last so long.

2. Obama has a much better chance of winning now, and his endorsement will give him good credit at this point if Obama wins. (if he gets a spot in office or even wants one, idk, but reputation is what's most obvious here).

but, does it influence me? no, simple politics has never influenced me. politicians bullshit, and i'm not one to fall for it. For me, it is and always will be about the issues.

Pyggy...please answer this because it really puzzles me. If you truly believe that ALL politicians spew bullshit and you don't fall for any of it...and it is only about the issues for you, how do you decide which person is telling you the truth about the issues which concern you? If you think that no one is telling the truth, how do you decide?

1. i do believe what they say when they state how they will get things done.

2. i dont care on how fancy or how charasmatically they present it.

3. 90% of what they say is just strategies to bring in the sheep. all i care about is what they are going to do when in office.

I've liked Obama since Edwards dropped out because of his lack of connections to the special interests currently running Washington, and that he didn't have a silver spoon shoved down his throat from birth. I've always liked Collin Powell, regardless of his political affiliation, but this is clearly about Powell, and not Obama. His support does not change the political map at all.

Side: No, It Does Not

Hi David! When you say it's clearly about Powell and not Obama, what do you mean? I don't understand. I, too, have always liked Colin Powell and have had an extraordinary amount of respect for him as a General and as Secretary of State. His support does not change the political map but it could change the ways in which people had been thinking about Obama and McCain...especially since Powell and McCain are both military men and both Republicans. I think it speaks volumes about all three men actually. As you know, I am also an Obama voter but I have such respect for Powell it just solidified my thoughts and my choice.

I'm still not voting. I got a new game for my PS3 and I just don't have the time to go out and vote. Besides, if Obama does turn out to be the messiah, I will still be able to live with myself knowing full well that I didn't take part of a historic event of biblical proportions. If he turns out to be the anti-Christ, I would be glad I didn't take part of that historical event of biblical proportions. If McCain wins, same thing. He'll either succeed or fail. Either way, I'll just deal with the after math. It's a win-win situation for me. If the next president sucks, I'll tease those who voted for him. If he does great, I'll keep my mouth shut and count my lucky stars.

One can only wish that sometimes you'd go and play war games on your PS3 since you're not voting after all you've written!

Now why would you want me to stop writing what I'm writing?
