I've had this experience both on this site and in real life. If someone is suffering mentally they seem to lose a lot of the ability to empathise, take on board other peoples arguments and feelings, and to act accordingly. I wonder if this is something inherent in being mentally ill - I understand that when you're suffering its very difficult to look outside yourself - or if it's just my experience. Side: Yes

I dont know about other mental issues but depression is definitely a selfish illness, when it kicks in it does make the sufferer think only of themselves, the problem with this is that it can then lead to feelings of guilt which doesn't help the depression. This has been my experience anyway Side: Yes
I was talking from my own experience and that the illness makes a person selfish whilst suffering as in, whilst suffering all they can think about whilst dwelling in a void of self loathing is how miserable they are. I'm not saying they are generally selfish people in their whole lives Side: Yes
