Does the sacred have intrinsic value?

Before the sacred, people lost all sense of power and all confidence; they occupy a powerless and humble attitude toward it. And yet no thing is sacred of itself, but by declaring it sacred, by my declaration, my judgment, my bending the knee; in short, by my - conscience. (Max Stirner)

What are your thoughts about the sacred? If the sacred has intrinsic value, how do we come to know that sacred value? If the sacred does not have instrinsic value, should we abandon it completely or is there cause to retain it?

Notes:
(1) the sacred may refer to both the religious and the secular;
(2) intrinsic is meant to convey that the value of the sacred is unto the sacred thing rather than originating from elsewhere; and
(3) unproductive users will be warned and then banned for continued lack of contribution.

The sacred value of a place or a thing or a memory is not its own. It is given sacred value by people. An Indian sacred burial ground comes to mind. The only intrinsic value of a sacred place or thing is also given by people. Such as its materials, or its beauty, or its artistic value.

That would make it extrinsic...

What do you think the repercussions of this are or should be?

IMO repercussions will be inevitable conflicts over the fact that not everyone considers the same things as sacred.

What should be is that we respect the things that others hold to be sacred out of kindness and understanding. However this is not a universal rational expectation.
