Does the universe have a limit, or does it go on and on.

It doesn't have an end.

It doesn't make sense for the universe to have an end. The universe is just empty space. It is full of nothing. So how can something which nothing in it have an end?

Side: It doesn't have an end.

I think the bounds of the universe are defined by the matter in it. So when they say the universe is expanding, they mean the matter is spreading out. The empty space does indeed go on forever.

I am indeed a christian, however the reason why I created isn't because of my religion. It's something I have wondererd about. In fact, I only relised this recently.

So I would say we agree with each other.

Something with nothing in it can end for instance a vacuum chamber. There is nothing in it at all not even air yet it ends. And the universe being empty space is exactly right but outside the universe there is no space as the universe expands so does the space there is to be empty.

I you mean things like "length" then it's pretty much infinite. But there are more kinds of infinity...

Yes, I am rerfering to length. Out of intrest what do you mean by other kinds of infinty?

Infinities are interesting mathematical discipline, sadly CD does not allows special symbols or LaTex input so I cannot write equations.

Keep going through those black holes.

Best solution: build a probe that can last for a few hundred years and put a camera on it and send it into space and let the scientist do the rest.

Side: It doesn't have an end.

If time gets ripped apart then the camera/probe wont,so we will never know, but i still want to know, its called curiousity,

Side: It doesn't have an end.

I think the universe has no end and it goes on toward infinity.

Side: It doesn't have an end.

I don't know. I have heard tales of the big crunch being the end to our universe.

How so? There's no evidence for the big bang, yet people believe it so wholesomely. The thing that's sending the big bang out, is energy. Energy is not infinite it'll stop eventually. When it does, the expanding universe should retract, as gravity dictates.

The universe has an end the end is just expanding continuously for an infinite distance taking an infinite amount of time. the WMAP image proves this it is a microwave background image of the edge of the universe right after the big bang.
