Does this make sense, americans?

Look at the police state we are headed into, this article just absolutely blows my mind.

This is the most terrible thing i have ever read or heard of: http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/lending-friend-your-car-can-get-you-life-sentence

To sum it up, a kid lent his friend his car, which he had done many times before in the past, but this time the friend he lent it to took his friends to rob a lady who was selling marijuana, in the break in, a teenage girl was killed.

They all received their punishments.

But ryan, the kid who lent out the car and WAS ASLEEP IN HIS BED THE NIGHT IT HAPPENED, (an undisputed fact even by the prosecutor) was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole.

he is in his eleventh year now.

Is this fair? America is the only country with the Felony Murder Law, 3 states have dropped it, kentucky, michigan and hawaii.

Wow. Blows my mind.

Don't loan out your car you may go to prison for life.

It is terrible, but it is also an example taken out of context. If we were living in a true police state the law in question would not be starting to come off the books as it evidently is, according to your source. If we were living in a true police state you could be arrested, tortured, disappeared, etc. for writing what you have. To create a parallel between the United States and actual police states on the basis of a single law is not only an alarmist fallacy, but terribly insensitive to those living in actual police states.

He was told his car was going to be used to commit a crime. Life in prison is harsh, a murder conviction is overkill. But I agree that he should have at least done some time for loaning the car. If he was not informed of the burglary, then he shouldn't have been convicted. He was also offered a plea deal for 10 years which he should have negotiated and eventually taken.
