Should the U.S. adopt a Constitutional Amendment like the ERA:

"Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex."

According to Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia - since the orginal intent of the 14th Amendment was not to protect women, women do not currently have any Contitutionally protected rights. If the Federal government or a State wanted to pass a law saying women do not have the Constitutional right to due process or any other right in the Constitution or Bill of Rights (free speach, speedy trial, gun ownership, elective office, etc.), they can since "persons" does not include women.

I'll throw this out there just for some fodder - it would also solidify the Constitutionality of gay marriage.

This is a great Amendment and I like the wording. Amendments are tough, however, to be ratified by 3/4 of the States.

I think it should be expanded. Whites rights should be reduced temporarily for about 75 years to allow the unequalness in American culture to be more balanced. It is well known that although blacks built this great nation they were not allowed wages for a couple two or three hundred years. Therefore i support an equal rights adjustment temporarily to promote a more balanced America.
