We invented it, America misunderstood it and (as they always do) claimed their version was the right one.

American football is essentially rugby. Except rugby players man the fuck up and don't wear protection on every inch of their body.

I get really annoyed when americans say "our football is tougher than yours".

I am in favour of regarding European Football as the 'true' football, as firstly, the name of the sport bears more relevance to how the sport is played. Secondly, as a global game, it is known as football in far more parts of the world than American Football.

Is that it? The best you can do?

One sport has world-wide appeal, the other only within a handful of nations- one has an international World Cup- the other doesn't. That rests my case for me.

I think the European football gets you in better shape, but for me our version is a lot more fun.

Side: american football

A bunch of fairies running around a field kicking a round ball.

The flip side

A bunch of highly trained athletes hitting one another at full speed at risk of serious injury on every play.

You have that completely wrong.

On the one side, you have a game that involves a lot of running for 45 minutes at a time, as well as skill and finesse. On the other side, you have a game broken into quarters and filled with time outs, essentially a poor version of rugby.
