Everyone has the right to be offended but do you have the right not to be offended?

Freedom of speech is protected in constitution with limits.  For example you cannot yell fire in a theater when there isnt one.  How far does this limitation extend?  Should people be free from deragatory speech, hateul comments, or other objectionable activities while in public spaces?

Yes. Not having that right would mean that by law you have to pick something to be offended about. If you decide to be offended by something, you waive your right to not be offended.

I always say: In order for you to offend me I would first have to value your opinion.

I am pleased that the liberal political correctness crap did not prevail. It's the epitome of hypocrisy.

Fuck that. Enough with the pathetic cry babies.

I'm not responsible for your sensibilities.

But most of all, I'm glad that your ex president, the pathetic weasel from Kenya will finally be gone. I hope he goes back to his country where he belongs

Listening to Dimwits,

Yes.....but its not every right you have to exercise.........Or it will go against you....

I think weak minded people easily get offended.

Getting offended in the head breaks you down....

And in the heart if you should react(always) will give you some critical heart problems in the future....you might probably die from a heart attack oneday from one slight silly anger..

Words i see on this debate are just symbols that i give understanding to...and i choose to relate it to myself or not.

Cos i have a dictionary for myself.....myself definition.....

So someone's definition is just his definition.....different dictionaries.....i can't use two....

So i choose to be offended.....

Rights are priviledges.....getting offended is not a priviledge

Side: Yes you have this right

Absolutely, especially when I'm in my safe zone. So don't say things that might upset me; it would be considered very rude.

It seems more and more today, people believe that those whose opinion they do not agree with want to limit what they say and insist they shouldnt be llowed to express it. We see this in the creation of "safe spaces" which are public areas that limit what others can say because some particular members will be offended. This is creating a culture/belief that people shouldnt be allowed to express opinions no matter how offensive they are while in public. This stifling is leading to heard mentality where people follow blindly others without critically thinking about the issue. Take for instance climate change. While I personally believe the climate is changing and that humans have contributed to the change, I dont feel the scientific community has been free to debate the issue and properly challenge the accepted hypothesis. This leads to decisions that are not well thought out.

In today's world, quite literally anything you can say could be construed as "offensive". If a law was passed stating that you can't offend someone, saying anything at all would be a risk, much less expressing an opinion.

Further, what if someone's offense at your words offends you? Then who's charged with "hate speech"?
