Fat Pride!

The Obesity issue is increasing in the U.S.  We all know being fat makes you more suspectible to certain health issues and some people get made fun of for it.  But is having Fat Pride a good thing?

Being fat or obese doesn't make you ugly.  Everyone likes different body types.  But if you use Fat Pride to bring skinny or fit people down?  That's not okay!

I find the current trend of obesity apologetics to be downright absurd. Of course there are women who are beautiful that are not stick thin (personally, I can't stand seeing ribs), and women who have realistic and "curvy" bodies should not be shamed for it. But this new trend of pretending that morbid obesity is or should be acceptable is downright harmful to society. Cardiovascular disease caused by poor diet and lifestyle is one of the leading health issues in this country (thanks Mexico for taking first place from us), and obesity appologetics will only contribute to that. If someone has a glandular issue or a similar condition that causes obesity, that is fine and understandable, as that is a legitimate condition that is often incredibly hard to manage. If someone lives in a food desert and has not been educated on ways to eat healthy, I at least can understand that. But the number of people who refuse to accept responsibility for their diet and lifestyle, who cost this country millions upon millions in healthcare costs, and then demand acceptance is utterly absurd.

I say we melt them into bio diesel and solve our energy problem.

speaking as an ex obese person i would not advise any one to be proud in their fat and try to work as hard as they can to un-fat themselves.

Out of all thing one must take pride being a walking case of heart disease and diabetes should not be. Sorry for the crudeness but i'm gonna be straight up one should take pride in a hard work earned toned body, anything someone should take pride in should be something they worked hard to achieve. That's my view point in pride and all those that think i'm fat shaming stop playing the victim nothing wrong with having a little weight but when it comes to the point of being a health risk what is there to take pride in, that you have bad eating habits and won't get off your a$$.

There are few, if any, every day scenes more repulsive than to observe the grotesque, almost human like shape of a mound of lard wobbling through the highways and byways of our towns and cities. These unsightly freaks are the architects of their own hideous, unnatural state as well as the inevitable ensuing health conditions including, type 2 diabetes, certain types of cancer and cardio vascular diseases. A ''Fat Shame'' parade would be more appropriate.

Although I am against all the hate that comes from both sides, I do agree with you to some extent. You are being too harsh. Maybe if you read some of the other comments you will understand why I don't like your argument.

I think we should support overweight people, but in the sense that we don't shame them, but tell them there is a problem. The way I see it, you are telling them they are beautiful people and shouldnt have to hide behind food. People with depression, or other issues, sometimes use food as a comfort. Shaming only makes it worse. Most know they're overweight, but they feel they aren't worth changing habits or they're at a point when it's not that easy anymore. A lot of them are beautiful people and deserve a chance to feel beautiful in order to start making a change. You need to love yourself first in order to better yourself.

as much as many try to hide any shred of personal disgust for the obese, it is apparent in many people's priorities. the falsely-rationalised argument is that being obese is wrong because it causes health problems. however there are many other choices we make calling them our rights and liberties that do not benefit us, or can even be harmful to us.

Side: For It

Since a considerable amount of overweight people are being ridiculed (not nice at all), perhaps a group of obese people want a revenge tactic by celebrating "Fat Pride."

That is like saying that pedophiles celebrate child attraction pride is a revenge tactic. It's not good for anyone seeing a bunch of males and females waving around banners screaming "I love the tightest pussy and tiny dick!"

Fat pride falls in these lines because it's not helpful on an evolutionary sense and therefore, it falls under the category of hopeless beings trying to be accepted.

You actually just compared obesity to active pedophiles. That you rely so much upon a tired and inaccurate juxtaposition with an entirely distinct issue underscores the likelihood that your views are poorly construed.

With regards to evolution there is little reason to suspect that obesity prevents procreation and survival of the species, nor is there much basis to claim that it is significantly more self-destructive than many of the other behaviors most people engage in. At best, your argument for prejudice against fat people is that they are just as dysfunctional as the majority of their counterparts.

I think it has less to do with revenge and more to do with reclaiming the self-esteem and self-confidence that go hand in hand with living a healthier life, both of which are harmed by prejudicial ridicule.

BINGO... but why don't we let everyone with self esteem issues start parading around time square saying "I'm number one!"

Pedophiles, murderers, emos with no life! you name it they parade it!
