Personally, I don't see how there's really any controversy over this.

Oh right, I forgot. People don't like to be reasonable and listen to experts.

Global warming (or "climate change") is bad for virtually any species wishing to remain alive. The maximum amount of carbon dioxide in the air is about 350 ppm. After this point, life becomes unsustainable for any long period of time. The Earth is now at 387 ppm. That's an incredible change. Life as we know it is not sustainable at this level.

It's true that most of the North Pole will not cause a rise in sea level because it is sea ice; when it melts, it won't raise the level. However places like Greenland and Antarctica where the ice is land-based will cause a rise in sea level. It's like adding more stuff into a cup of water. The cup of water's level will rise. Additionally, the fresh water will upset natural habitats of fish and other aquatic life that had adapted itself to the salt water. In addition to THAT, some of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will be dissolved into the oceans, further making it uninhabitable for aquatic life, and polluting our drinking water. Even so, as ocean temperatures increase, less carbon dioxide will be able to dissolve into the oceans, so the oceans will RELEASE some of the carbon dioxide it had previously stored, increasing the rate at which our planet warms. A warm planet may not immediately be bad for the industrialized nations of the world, but you can bet that the more densely populated areas of the world and the unindustrialized/industrializing countries will be devastated. Places like India and China and other crowded areas will suffer from mass death induced by higher temperatures (increasing the prevalence of diseases that thrive on warm and other possibilities of death like heat stroke/exhaustion). Industrialization will have to be halted, where they won't be able to find a steady work supply (poor health care and inadequate access to medicine) and sources of energy, food and water become contaminated or move away. Does any of this sound good?

That whole "Climategate" "scandal" really hasn't proved global warming is happening. Climatologists and others who specialize in climate studies still generally are convinced that global warming is occurring AND a large part of it is human-induced. All the "scandal" did show was a failing in the system, not in the science.

glowbal warming cause due to emmissions of mainly c02 gas has damaging effects in future. many of ddeveloped country have said that developing countries like india and china are responsible for GW.but i thing it is very long process.so developed countries are responsible for that

Global warming is bad because 1st it can cause a deadly disease that insects carry around and they midrate to the south bringing plauges and diseases. Some scientist believe that in some countries because of global warming malaria has not been fully eradacated.

Second warmer waters and more hurricanes wich is as the tempatures rise at the bottom of the ocean the frequent will rise causing more hurricanes so that mean aot of people will mor likely die that is surrounded by water. Then the countries will have to spend mor money.

The bad thing is that people that go to public schools lie about it and so do most scientist that agree with it.

One of my younger comrades in high school had a Lady come in from some Government organization come in and talk to the students about it's "dangers" she said that the number one gas that causes GW is Co2 FALSE!

Even scientist that don't agree on GW (which majority don't) say that the number one gas or anything is Water vapor!

Teaching lies to young and inexperienced teens that is sick.

LOL! majority of scientists DO agree with GW.

I doubt the woman said CO2 was the largest contributer. She probably said it was the largest CHANGE in contributer.

Please prove it because the latest statistics say that majority disbelieve.

And she said both of those.

Well I live 30 minutes from the beach, so a little warmer weather means I can live right at the beach! ;)

But in all seriousness, as severe as the problems are, I believe that the Earth is resilient enough to fix itself after we're gone.

After we're gone? I've long thought about a similar argument: as I heard people talk about global warming I would say to myself 'Earth has survived all this time, it'll take care of itself regardless of us. Nature will provide.' Also, aren't the oranges in Florida frozen?

Side: Good things

While I don't believe in global warming, I don't see how these methods are causing damage to anybody but ourselves.

It's causing plenty of damage to EVERYTHING that's alive. Ocean acidification destroys coral reefs, in turn destroying the habitats of millions of species of fish. Deforestation, while also increasing CO2, also destroys tons of wildlife habitats. Desertification increases, and eventually Africa becomes a dust bowl. Islands are swallowed up. If plants are killed in some places by global warming, then there is no way to guarantee that life will exist after humans have died through global warming. After all, plants use the CO2, but after their gone or they have reached a point where they can no longer stem the increase in CO2, then life will either have to adapt and be based off of CO2 instead of oxygen, or we become like Mars or Venus.

I don't think that you understood what I meant. When I said that what we are doing can't be causing harm, I meant that our efforts to reduce global warming, whether it is true or not, can't be doind us harm. You thought that I meant that nothing we do can cause harm to our planet.

It's bad and good.

Warmer weather means more time grower crops which means more food! No way?! Yep!

Which makes it so other third world countries can not be as starving as they use to.

Side: Good things

Warmer weather also makes crops more susceptible to disease and decreases productivity (because they can only produce a maximum at specific temperatures, not generally higher). In such a state, one could hardly expect third world countries to invest in agriculture, and instead would redouble their efforts to industrialize, and in doing so increase the effects of pollution and from there global warming.

increased CO2 in the air means higher crop production. Anyone who knows anything about basic biology could tell you that. Global warming is all political bs from the liberals

Perhaps basic biology didn't teach you anything, nor did any of the plant studies.

Yes, some increase in CO2 does increase plant production/growth, but beyond that small increase in CO2, there is no net rate gain, and is eventually decrease in growth.
