Has McCain gone too far with the distortions in his ads?

The attached video really speaks for itself. I'm appalled that the McCain campaign has repeatedly, intentionally misled the American people. Sure the Obama campaign has stretched the truth a few times, but McCain has shown himself to be by far the dirtier politician in this election.

Side: yes

I believe, and I could be mistaken since my memory eludes me at times, these are among the filthiest lies I've ever heard a candidate utter regarding another. Stretching is one thing, reminding or re-iterating is one thing...but these show me who this man really is. Some would say they all go too far but this is irresponsibly and blatantly untrue.

Since I think the American voter, en masse, is going to have a hard time voting for a black whether they say so or not, I do wish the Republicans had put forth a decent candidate: looking at these ads, and remembering what Bush did to McCain in South Carolina, one sees immediately that McCain will be an extension of the Bush presidency. He will do anything to grab the win, and I mean anything. What a prospect for America.

The problem is that if McCain sticks to talking about what he will and has done he loses in a landslide. Fear is the only chance the GOP has this time, same as last election, and it may work again. Apparently the U.S. learning curve is longer than 8 years.

Notice that the vast majority of Obama ads are about.... OBAMA! while the vast majority of McCain ads are about... OBAMA!

Way to go straight shooter, you're a regular huckleberry.

How can you say this? McCain has an outstanding total record. Obama has done nothing. Obama is the only human on earth who can talk so much about him self when there is NOTHING to talk about. Never mind that he has written two books about himself which include nothing of note to base a ran for president. In fact during the whole time he has supposedly talked about himself his huge lead over McCain has disappeared. The past week or so, Obama has talked trash about his opponent almost exclusively. Nothing has been about himself lately because talking about himself cost him the lead in the polls!

They should BOTH be ashamed of the last week's ads. But anyone who thinks Obama is an innocent is just too partisan to open their eyes. Obama has sold himself more than a cheap hooker. He has lied about his relationship with Ayres. Ayres founded an educational non profit and picked Obama as Chairman. It's mission was to fund organizers like Obama. He spent twenty years at a church that is founded upon a racist, hateful doctrine because that church put the most money on the street through organizers like Obama. Nothing wrong with either of those actions but if it had been a white guy who joined a restricted club for the business contacts, Dems wouldn't be so willing to ignore it. If Obama just stood up and said he did it, he chose what was good for business instead of what was right, no sweat. But instead he is lying to us.

Both of these guys should be ashamed. The last week would be silly if it wasn't so sad. Do we really care if McCain has 19 lobbyists among his fund raisers or 27? After all he has over 2,000 fund raisers. Lobbying is a legal profession. Obama and the Dems should stop throwing that word around like it meant murderer or con man. Obama thinks lobbyists are bad when they are McCain's but when they donate money to him from Fannie and Freddie, he isn't so upset with lobbyists. He should stop pretending he didn't have the relationship with Ayres because it was good for his professional life. Ditto for his church. He can pretend Franklin Raines and Johnson aren't part of his campaign or he can be scrupulously honest with us. So far he has not chosen honesty. So he should stop beating us with a club that hits his home as much as McCain's.

McCain having an outstanding record is based on what exactly Ink? His original support of this bogus Iraq war? Not supporting more funding for vets? Not supporting better education packages for troops after service because, "it would encourage soldiers not to resign." ? Or is it one of the other 90% of the times he voted with Bush?

Lobbyists among his fund raisers? Who's talking about that? I think the problem is his 159 lobbyists who advise him. Not sure where you got the numbers 19 or 27.

And that middle paragraph is so full of conjecture, spin, and lies I don't even know where to start. Your illusion to reverse racism I do find hilarious though. I know, I know, the poor white man's always getting picked on and these blacks have it so easy.

Side: yes

Yeah, I think the mudslinging may hurt him. I say "may" because both campains have advisors that have experience running campains and they know what works, what doesn't and how far to push the envelope. Sometimes they miscalculate. This is going to be a very close race. I think most conservatives will vote for McCain and hope something happens that will leave Palin at the helm. But then again I'm unreasonably partial to pistol-packin' Looby Loo pitt bulls wearing lipstick and 4000 year old Dinosaurs. ;)

I think that McCain should take charge of his own fact checking.

they have taken this way to far. I understand that politics is a dirty game but trying to make themselves look like perfection is not the way to go. Backlashing on others will only hurt his campaign.

Politics is a dirty game. Presidential politics are even worse. This sort of mudslinging is to be expected.

And it's not like Obama hasn't distorted truths about McCain.

Check out http://www.factcheck.org/ You can find distortions from both campaigns.

It's true that both have distorted the truth. That doesn't mean he hasn't gone too far. It means they both went too far. You should have voted the other way. Anything less than the truth is "going too far". Just because something is dirty, doesn't mean it can't be cleaned.

Politics is all about persuading voters to believe the way you do. Unfortunately in America that means going all out and using all the arsenal you can muster to come out on top. So no, McCain hasn't gone TOO far. Because in politics, there is no such thing as TOO far!

Did any of you folks posting on the other side of the screen even think to check who made up the video full of clever edits, lies and character attacks in the video above? This is why the American government sucks. You all post wearing blinders and just knee jerk to the left or right. Not one of you bothered to note who made this sleazy video. The guy made the inane movie Xanadu for god's sake!! His production company and his foundation and the PAC directly responsible for this are sleazy Hollywood left wingers who think they own our culture and they can dictate to us. Just like the sleazy RIGHT wingers who think and do the same thing. Until the people/voters stop the knee jerk responses to what we WANT to hear instead of thinking and questioning everything, we are lemmings and WE, the people are to blame, not the puppet masters pulling our strings. We let them do it by letting videos like this one lie about the "enemy" telling his lies. Open your eyes folks and check the source of sleaze like this video. BOTH candidates embarrassed themselves last week. Acknowledge that it is equal from both sides and stop trying make one side 1% worse so you can declare a victory. Victory is when they are both called on every lie so that they stop. Obama has lied and misled for months and months. He has lied about Ayres. The facts are that Ayres formed a foundation to raise money for organizers and picked Obama to be its chairman. Obama cared more about the money it would funnel to his causes than the nature of his partner Ayres. That is not morally reprehensible although it DOES say something about Obama. Especially when we recognize that he joined the racist church he did because it also put huge amounts of money onto the streets to organizers like him. Again, understandable. Many of us compromise our morals to advance our career. It is like some small town white business owner joining a restricted country club for the business contacts. But he HAS lied and dissembled for months. DO you think he is less of a liar because his lies are about himself?

I am long winded enough but I cant break down every lie in Greenwalds piece of fiction above. But one example is the assertion that McCain voted against the troops 10 times. First, how many total troops and vets votes do you think McCain has made in his 20 some years in public service. Second, go look at the bills he voted against. Whenever a pol says his opponent voted against one stand or another, I ALWAYS discount it. Most bills contain dozens of unrelated poison pills. Any of these could be the reason a vote against them are made. Then, someone looks for one of these convoluted bills with some altruistic portion that no one could be against and claims THAT is what was voted against.

Every quote in this video is by a left wing paper or left wing talking head. The Times? Newsweek? NBC? Hardly impartial sources. And then, those quotes are edited as carefully as the actual videos are edited.

Wake up. Stop swallowing this filth without checking out the claims, questioning the source and for God's sake open your eyes. Vote for whoever you want to vote for. But for America's sake don't vote blindly on ignorant partisanship.
