Having an alias debate name says what? What's the purpose of hiding your true identity?

Why would a person want to hide his true identity? The only possible reason is to deceive others, and hide from false statements or remarks spoken in the past.

The entire time I've been on this debate site, I've had but one name. I have no need to hide from things I've posted in the past. If I've  made an obvious mistake, I would always hope to show the integrity of owning up to it. If I have fallen short on doing so, shame on me.

If a person wants to change his identity, it says his past identity has proven to be deceptive and not worth keeping. The next time you feel the need of deceiving someone, ask yourself...... why am I on this debate site? Ask yourself what good does it do to win an argument through deception? If to win an argument requires deception, why waste your time winning a false argument?

It means nothing to win a debate through deception because your so called win is a joke. It's a sham! Are you so shallow to get pleasure from deceiving another? Sad if that is the case.

Try growing and becoming secure with who you are. If you are a person who needs to deceive others from your true self, please look within and address your shortcomings. There is no shame in admitting when you are wrong. It takes a big person to admit when they are wrong. It's the first step to becoming a mature responsible human being that others can respect.

Admirable. Can you please show is an example on this site of when you have made a mistake? And further, when you have admitted to it?

why am I on this debate site?

Oh oh oh I know that one... is the answer to further a political cause?

I have made mistakes on issues and owned up to them. I'm sure not going to waste my time looking through past arguments to prove anything to you.

Either address this debate concerning aliases, or it's ignore time.

Owning up to them and shifting the blame are two totally different things. Everyone makes mistakes but actually owning up to them is more respectful.

As to alias's, I know one person admitted they have one other alias to upvote all the downvotes that some other people very liberally apply. A few others.....I'm not sure I guess it's to address a personality quirk? Maybe one day they feel mean or something, I'm not sure.

I'm 90% certain that Chinaman and Outlaw are the same so if that's the case then "Outlaw" gave a stink about not being able to use the N word when this site's creator asked him to stop, then he turned around and created Chinaman so he could keep going.

I don't even know how many a few other members have on here, some are definitely more than two. Probably to upvote their own statements and downvote someone else who is irritating them?

Crock has around five names that I know of, probably more .

There is no good reason for a person to be afraid of letting others know who they are. There is something to be said for requiring a person's true name to be used on debate sites.

1. There are violent predators all over the internet looking for their next victims. This would be particularly wise for women to consider and I know they do consider it.

2. You work for a business that like many business think they own you even when you're not at work, so they seek out your online posts and if they deem them unacceptable they fire you.

3. You don't feel like using your real name for a reason that you don't even bother to question, you just do it automatically because you have common sense. <--- me

One question: You guys do realize that you're using aliases right now don't you?

Oh, and I know that my post won't last long. The ever pious FromWithin has no tolerance for free speech. After this post is deleted or I'm banned from it I won't bother to post on any debate he or she starts again.

I would ban you for the insults at the end of your post. Garbage like that makes me regret having bothered to read anything you wrote.

Wat a shock, instant insults from the idiots on this site. I had no thought of banning you until your insult...bye

There was a time way back in the early days of the internet when everyone understood that if you weren't flying anonymous, you were a total sucker.

Really says a great deal about the current state of things these days if you ask me.

I'm not saying we should be using our reals names. I'm speaking to the people who start with their original debate name, but then add many more to deceive people who learned how deceptive they are.

The entire reason to keep your original site name is because people get to know your philosophy on life, which saves a lot of time if we think this is some new person we are talking to.

So many on these debate sites are chldish fools who lack the intellect to actually debate. They simply want to stir up trouble, and then when they find themselves getting banned, they change their names.

Ahhhh yeahhh. To some extent agree with you. I do believe that when debating, who you are should be not part of the debate. We aren't disputing identities we are disputing arguments.

For all I know you could be a pro life communist playing the devil's advocate. Does it matter in the context a debate?

1 point

WEll, it could go either way. Hiding your true identity is not necessarily devious; some people would like to use an alias so as to avoid attracting attention to their true identity, or they would like their opinions to be credited as much as the next person's. For example, if people on the internet knew my real age, I would be instantly discredited; that is my purpose in using an alias, though I do agree that they are usually unnecessary, especially on debate sites.

I did not mean to use our real names. I meant to stay with the original site name we chose to use instead of adding aliases so to deceive others to who we really are.
