Hellno's Corner: Should Pornography be banned?

I recently caught my husband gaining pleasure from a site called: "Chicks with dicks.com." and it hurt my feelings. As a wife I try hard to maintain my excellent figure (I weigh 45 pounds and am size 2) but when all my hard work doesn't satisfy my spouse I feel abuse.

This brings us back to the issue in hand, now that the Government have shown us that they can shutdown websites (http://megaupload.com/) should they use this power to remove pornographic websites?

Yes, pornagraphy should be banned. If prostitution is illegal in Britain then so should pornography (I cannot speak the rest of the world).

If prostitution is illegal in Britain

What if prostitution was legal?

That's not an argument. That's a perceived (only to you) legal inconsistency that isn't actually a legal inconsistency.

Side: No

Pornography? If a child sees it, then what will happen to the child?

Impossible. URL's can not contain spaces. Nice try, though.

That was what the site was called, not the URL. I'm not going to post the URL to a pornsite because I could get banned.

Anyway, please stick to the debate topic.

But you did post it... any idiot knows URL's don't have spaces... I doubt it's an actual site...

no if people get pleasure out of watching pornography (unless its illegal , i.e. child porn) who are you to or the government to deprive them of that?

I feel like I've gone through this debate countless amount of times.

Pornography is a healthy way to help oneself relieve some stress. Pornography, unless it's real child/rape pornography, doesn't hurt anyone. And it can enhance a relationships sexual life if a couple watches together, or even separately for that matter.

While I in no way support pornography, depriving people of their right to watch porn is out of the question, people should have the right to choose whether they watch it or not, it would completely defeat the purpose of democracy if pornography was banned simply because individuals deemed it a taboo. If you don't like it, don't watch it.

First of all, the Government cannot make laws simply because you felt bad or jealous about it. Imagine if we banned all veggies because they taste bad. The government would collapse from the unrealistic irrationality of such a feat, from the hatred of the majority, and from the costs of such a Thought Police (Hence why prohibition was a catastrophe). It seems that you feel jealous about what other people think, which will eventually lead to your downfall. If a medium is to be banned then it has to involve real non-consensual violence or exploitation, thus you have to prove that the pornographers used human trafficking, rape or fraud. Prove that there were real victims rather than just people who "felt bad about it".

Second, consensual porn is an art medium and therefore can be protected by First Amendment rights. As I said, an art or other form of media can only lose their rights if it involved non-consensual violence or exploitation. This is why we tolerate adult porn, but detest child porn and rape (because they have victims).

Third, he is simply looking at the medium, as with all offensive art forms, but at least he is not having sexual intercourse with it! The golden rule in watching media: If you don't like to watch it, look away. Enough said.
