High Schools Are for Education, NOT Sports

Actually, high schools AND colleges are for both.

Playing sports can teach us many valuable lessons, such as teamwork, strategy, self discipline, working with others, facing adversity, and learning to overcome obstacles and competition.

Funny how I just realized a good percentage of today's teens lack those qualities!

As a former high school and college athlete, I am a huge fan of sports. If it were not for my sport, hockey, I may have not even gone to college, as I originally came here on an athletic scholarship.

Oh! That's another good thing about sports! It can afford an inlet to college that some might not have without it.

And..if you allow me to escalate our parameters here to the college level, look at how many student athletes graduate! You cannot admit that most of them and especially those who went to college on an athletic ride would have done so without sports.

Especially inner city kids.

Too...college sports teams can make big money for their respective schools!

Of course education and academia are important. I myself stayed here at the U of M after I got my undergrad degree. The value of a good education is not lost on me.

So I would hope the vaslue... For some!...of sports is not lost on you.

I also would hope that you would not denigrate sports juist because you were not physically adept enough to compete.

That would be biased and unfair.

Doncha think?

Thanks.

I agree that sport promotes the development of certain qualities of teamwork, overcoming difficulties. But, learning is still learning and sport takes some time in learning. This affects the quality of learning. Since I loved sports during my college years, did not quite cope with my studies and used the website www.paidpaper.net , where I could choose reviews of the best writing services. This helped me evaluate top essay writing services and choose the best one. This allowed me to combine two things that I needed to do. If I went back to university, I probably would have spent more time studying, rather than playing sports.

Education is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits.

I'm pretty sure you can fit sport in skills, habits and even values.

Yes....anybody who has competed knows this.

I might even say I learned more valuable life tools playing sports in h.s.then I did in the classroom.

See? My dad was in the oil business and he got a job transfer to Calgary, Canada when I was 14. So I walked on to the hockey team in h.s.

Being the only American kid on the team, I learned to deal with prejudice and adversity.

I also learned to fight! On the ice and off.

I sat on the bench mostly in my first season.

By my senior year I was 2nd on the team in Goals and assists.

And 3rd in the conference in penalty minutes!

We went to the regional Alberta finals and I had the gwg in the semi game to get us there, before we lost in the final championship game.

I was honorable mention in the Alberta High School Hockey All Star team after that final season.
