Hillary Tweets For President

Tomorrow Hillary Clinton is scheduled to announce her intention to seek the office of president of these United States, one of the most powerful positions in the world. Her chosen venue will not be an event with cheering supporters, applauding in the back ground. No excited crowd of onlookers to bolster enthusiasm for her candidacy.

Rather she will use Twitter to present her great announcement as a tweet.

Is it just me, or does this seem just wrong somehow? Undecided

Well if nobody's gonna support and back you,it's invariably better to seek support through social media; It's not just Hillary, even Jacob Zuma ,president of South Africa did so after he was strongly criticized for the flaws in the working of ANC ,and in that process he got re-elected this time by quite a good margin.

Agreed, however in Hillary's case, she is almost unopposed in her political party. Reportedly she has the support of millions of Americans.

Speculated causes for her choice include reference to her lack of charisma in public speaking. Gee that wouldn't become a problem for a president, would it?

Will you have a strategy for beating the Democrats if they pick someone other than Hillary? You are fixated with her.

I'm not sure why older generations are so anti-technology. This is an unorthodox approach, but it's smart as hell. First off, people are talking about it more than if she made a traditional speech. Second, she's clearly appealing to younger voters, which could be a key demographic to influence. Third, I feel like sharing her news over social media makes the announcement more of a national announcement instead of doing the speech in a specific state. Instead of saying "Hello Iowa, I am announcing my candidacy", she is saying "Hello America..."

First off, people are talking about it more than if she made a traditional speech.

Quite often what people are saying is of much greater import, than just the fact that they are talking.

Second, she's clearly appealing to younger voters, which could be a key demographic to influence.

That could likely be another mistake since they are a small minority in the voting population. Source

Third, I feel like sharing her news over social media makes the announcement more of a national announcement instead of doing the speech in a specific state.

Agree. BUT I do not think her location while announcing is of any great significance, since she'll be standing in an Iowa corn field Monday morning anyway.

The "older generation" has embraced social media by the millions and growing. Source Its not as though we are still setting in our parlors listening to the radio.

Your graph shows the percentage of voters, but I think it's only counting registered voters. The millennial population is actually larger than the baby boomer population and more diverse than it too. If she can appeal to young adults and convince them to register to vote, she has great odds.

And if she doesn't, well it's only a matter of time before younger generations start to vastly outnumber older ones and real change starts happening.

Sounds like she's going to pull an Obama and use the internet to secre the young, liberal, vote.

Election politics for primaries and general are wildly different.

In the primaries, the goal should be to differentiate yourself.

In the general, the goal should be to mobilize your party to vote.

Hilary will win the primary because she is the most well known Democrat at the moment. No need to worry about it.

In the general election, it has been shown that face-to-face vote campaigns work better. Twitter might not work.

If they make voting electronically possible, then election politics will change quite a bit.
