How long will it take for us to admit we cannot win this war?

Afghanistan is the land where a war has never been won but we're still there!  We wanted out of Iraq and slowly but surely we're leaving.  Why are the American people not up in arms about our actions and results in Afghanistan after all these years?  Are we still waiting for Osama bin laden to pop his head out of a mud hut or what?

depends what you mean by win, but america has successfully killed 1 million iraqis and made most afgans and iraqis very very scared, and miserable.

Here's the reason we are in ramping up our efforts in Afghanistan: If we allow the country to fall to the Taliban, they will likely be able to gain power in neighboring Pakistan as well. Pakistan, in case you don't know, has nuclear weapons. If the Taliban takes over there... well, just picture Osama bin Laden with nukes. Not a good situation.

Is it possible for us to build a self-sustaining nation in Afghanistan? It better be, because the consequences of failure could be quite dire indeed.

While I agree with much of what you say, true nation building in a country that's basically never had a real nation & that has very little to no natural resources is a losing strategy IMHO.

What we need to do in Afghanistan & Pakistan is kill as many Al-Qaeda or Taliban operatives & leaders as possible in order to unsure that they are never powerful enough again to threaten us, our allies, or anyone else in the region. Catching Bin Laden is a small part of this.

Launch a few nukes. Be done with the problem forever!!!!

Then again, we could surrender and become a peacible, Muslim nation.

It's not that war we have to worry about... it is this one we should be concerned with...

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I remember what happened the last time the GOP said we should invade a couple countries...

Really? YEAH LETS GET INVOLVED MORE.

I honestly think that Israel can hold their colors pretty damn well, and if they don't, I can't say they didn't have it coming. None the less, Iran has been showing it's ass and ignoring certain demands made of it as of lately, so yeah. Joe's pretty much right on the money guys. It's not the terrorists who are the problem right now. It's Iran. Someone really needs to get that asshole out of power.

Side: James P.Moran

Unfortunately it may be a little too late.

Sheesh, I hope that we NEVER go to war with Iran. They would shut down the Strait of Hormuz tout de suite, and fight A LOT harder for their country than anyone else that we have faced so far in that region. That's basically a lose-lose situation all around.

What we need to do is talk to Iran, since there are many, many people in Iran that desperately want to be friends again with us (as they were in the past BTW). Just look at the failed election of the wing-nut President of Iran recently (who really has very little power compared to the religious establishment in their theocracy). The majority of people in Iran want a much more moderate govt. in their country, and we need to help them make that a reality.

Israel is quite capable of taking care of themselves yanno...

Side: James P.Moran

Yeah, I don't want to go to war against Iran either. Hey, are you disputing me? ;)
