How would you act if you thought your life were in danger? Put yourself in a Cop's shoes!
If your boyfriend was just shot by a cop, Time for good old victim blaming. would you be in the right stage of mind to start videoing or would you try to get emergency help for him? When the cops shoot you for the slightest movement you have no choice but to hold the phone steady Did she call 911? The police are already there. Do you not see how indefensible a scenario you are painting? Any time you have to call 911 to protect you from the people that show up when you call 911 you are having a bad day. 2

I absolutely would use deadly force if I thought I HAD TO. But let's be clear. Many of the recent scenarios discussed in the news the officers really can't fairly say they had to. They were not alone. They were not on the losing end of the confrontation, in fact instead the alleged perpetrators were on the ground on the losing end or in the confined space of a parked car. They had not exhausted other options such as backing away and taking cover and calling for back-up. And, they could just as easily aimed for an arm or leg instead of dead center chest. I support police doing what is necessary to get their job done and to save the lives of themselves and others. But I can't support carelessness in using deadly force. Hey, if life were a bad Hollywood cop movie and Dirty Harry blew away the bad guy we'd all cheer, but Dirt Harry would STILL be up for internal investigations, would STILL be suspended for awhile or maybe even lose his badge, etc. Even in Hollywood we wouldn't be surprised at that level of scrutiny. So why are we surprised when real life cops get challenged? It's a whole lot more serious when it's real lives and not just a character in a script. |
