Generally speaking, the human being is a pro-social animal that relies upon connections with other human beings. There are arguably some psychological anomalies to that norm however, particularly within the antisocial personality spectrum. One must also consider what constitutes a "need" - is it merely survival or something more? Because strictly speaking, there are numerous cases of human survival in isolation though one would be hard pressed to consider the quality of life to have been very good. Side: Inessential

I think it really depends on the neurocognitive disposition of the person in question. For the neurodiverse who do not need significant connection, social deprivation likely would not be especially adverse for them. For the larger population which does require greater connection it obviously would have considerable negative impact on their development. Side: Needed
