The emptiness feeling you describe is presumably what the Russians call "toska", the feeling of depression that manifests itself with no explanation behind it, and indeed, many people do experience this. I was diagnosed with clinical depression a long time ago, and I got this feeling all the time. It's caused by a lack of serotonin in the chemical receptors of the brain, and has nothing to do with disbelief in an afterlife. In fact, it wasn't until I got over my childish beliefs about spirits and the afterlife that I got better. Now I'm a materialist determinist atheist rationalist, and I've never been happier. I think losing my virginity probably helped a bit too. Side: we still can do something aliv

"SCIENCE" DOESN'T belong to atheist either ! because it atheism world of view all we got is random mixed up of material and object ....atoms,molecules... but, don't forget that ! Science does have unchanged and continuous functioning all the times! So, you will have gravity works today and be sure the same after one year later.... no difference ! who does maintain the unity ? unique functionality ? you ? atheist manager ? No ! It's GOD. Well the dying thing is all down to what you believe, because each person, each religion will have its own ideas about what happens when you die, its own beliefs as well. And if atheism is the state of not having a faith or belief, then there is no hope in that when you are dead. Side: Only Faith can bring me hope !

Why should I care what happens to me when I'm dead? Of all the Trillions of molecular combinations that could have happened, one was me. There are so many possibilities, so many that could have been greater than Mozart, Jim Morrison, Albert Einstein or any such combination of nucleic acids, but I got the chance. So I'm seriously happy that I get the chance to exist, to love, learn, smell beautiful volatile organic compounds from fresh flowers or bacon grilling on a skillet, I can experience sexual pleasure and warp my mind with psychotropic substances, I can marvel at the wonders of the human imagination or at nature in it's most serene and most tempestuous. I can enjoy every single joy this life can bring me, without guilt or looking over my shoulder. I can do all this without mind invading dogma or personal sacrifice, I don't need to adhere to any outdated odious code, only the morals of my inherited genes and maybe the law of the land (but that depends). Eating shellfish, pork, rabbits, doing anything on the Sabbath, wearing mixed fabrics, anal sex, oral sex, having sexy thoughts, Male homosexuality (not female, strangely enough), sex before marriage, divorce, group sex, pornography, rounded hair, shaving, birth control, the spilling of seed, tattoos, desiring another's wealth and success, mugging off your parents, all forbidden by the bible, there's more but I can't remember them all. Oh yea, you can't worship metal gods (but Tool are so good) You have to sacrifice a lot, to end up going to spend an eternity in a heaven that really doesn't sound all that fun. But hey, rock on Christians. Side: we still can do something aliv

My life doesn't have to have a meaning. That doesn't make it any less fun. When you watch a movie you know it will eventually end, does that mean you never watch any movies? I don't need false hope and empty promises to comfort me, I can face reality, and as they say, truth hurts. Yeah, I'm going to die sometime in the next sixty or so years, and no, I don't think I'm going anywhere afterwards, but why would that bother me? I won't exist to be sad about it anymore. You were in a state of non-existence for trillions of years before your birth, were you scared then? No, you didn't exist. So why should you be scared of returning to that state? Instead of spending your only life worrying and preparing for death, why don't you live it? There's a reason that even Christian people say "you only live once", and I think that's because deep down, we know this is our only chance to live, otherwise we'd be saying YOLF (you only live forever), and not doing anything fun. I'll leave you with a quote from a man who you'll probably hate with a burning passion, I got the shivers when I watched this speech the first time. "We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Arabia. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here." – Richard Dawkins Side: we still can do something aliv

forgive me but YOLLOOOO!!!! just because you don't want to accept you'll die doesn't mean theres a god. You must face this, it happens to everyone. Just be thankful that you won the lottery to get life against all odds. Out of millions of possible you's that could have come from your parents dna combinations you were the one that got lucky. And also due to the law of conservational energy you'll never truly be gone. No energy is ever destroyed, you'll still be here just in a different form. Side: we still can do something aliv

The truly great thing about debunking the whole God-Jesus myth is that you come to realize there probably isn't an after-life. That means this moment right here and now is all we get. None of this banking on some fantastic afterlife. This is all we get. We have to be accountable for our actions now. We have to make the most of our lives now. After all, "now" is all we really have.
