If Putin nukes Ukraine, should we nuke Russia?

Hello:

Putin flirts again with grim prospect of nuclear war – this time he might mean it

If Putin nukes Ukraine it is the end of the world. I am sorry, but that's the grim truth. Nuclear winter, radiation pollution in the air, and so forth.

There is still pollution effects from the Manhattan project and other early nukes. We are already 100 seconds from extinction according to the doomsday clock.

Russia is doomed if they nuked Ukraine so why bother? I'd say if it really happens we should invest in saving the human culture. The human species would be impossible to save at that point.

Put as much culture in deep underground vaults. Send signals far into space for aliens to find and hope they don't make the same mistake. We should be doing that already, in fact. I don't think the human species will make it past 2100.

I don't think the human species will make it past 2100.

I think humanity will skate by long enough for AI or transhumans to inherit the earth. Some people who are alive now may end up being "immortal" and this will be determined mostly by wealth.

It would absolutely be the stupidest, smoothe-brainiest move to carry out a retaliatory nuclear strike on Russia. Mutually Assured Destruction is real and Russia will not hesitate to nuke the western hemisphere. Literal nuclear Armageddon. If Russia nukes Ukraine, the UN should dissolve Russia's veto status and vote to internationally condemn Russia.

That's probably what would happen.

Even the most pro-Russia, anti-West countries have come out in opposition to Russia's behaviour and you can bet that, if Russia pushes the big red button, their closest allies will drop them in an instant.

In this most unlikely event I feel that we should reluctantly tell Ukraine that we wish them well but they're on their own.

If Russia is nuked in support of Ukraine by the U.S., China, and then the U.K., France and maybe Israel along with North Korea will all join in the nuclear Armageddon.

Hello N:

What you describe is a green light for Putin to have his way with Ukraine. Plus, I don't believe the bombing will stop there. Once Pandora's box is opened, nobody knows what'll happen..

I believe in MAD - Mutual Assured Destruction.. That only works because BOTH sides believe the other side will shoot if shot at.. But, as soon as one side thinks they can drop nukes without paying the ultimate price, they'll drop their nukes..

So, no. I would not abandon our friends in Ukraine.

When the radio-active plumes of Mushroom-shaped clouds started to rise above the major towns and cities across the world the politicians in their nuclear bomb-proof shelters would be asking, do you feel that siding with Ukraine was really worth an all out global doomsday Armageddon?

As the sickly stench of billions of burnt and charred bodies filled the earth's atmosphere there would be no one left alive who would agree with your GUNG-HO bravado.

A nuclear conflict with Russia & the U.S., would instantaneously draw in all the nuclear powers including China, the U.K., France, North Korea, Israel along with those nations which permitted their countries to be used as nuclear weapon launching sites.

NOW, the RED-LINE would be if Putin attacked any member state of N.A.T.O.

In such a circumstance we unquestionably would have to take whatever action was necessary to confront the warmonger's aggression and be prepared to endure whatever woeful consequences such a conflict would incur.

An all out, doomsday nuclear war to show solidarity with Ukraine, NO.

If nuclear war was an inevitable consequence of stopping Putin's storm troopers overrunning the free world, YES.

In this scenario;- THE END MUST JUSTIFY THE MEANS, AND THE CONSEQUENCES.

Oh, by the way, you may have friends in Ukraine, I definitely do not and as such I don't want any of my family, friends or fellow country men and women to die for a country for which I care little and about which I know even less.

Putting aside the usual ideological drivel. This is serious. Putin and his cronies should be eliminated as soon as possible, using any available means short of nuclear weapons.

I would guess there are various ''bodies!'' plotting on that scenario right now.
