If a teacher cannot teach their students should they be fired?

Fairly straight forward, if a teacher cannot teach the knowledge they know to their students should they be fired? Where the bad grades coming from the student are purly the teachers fault

Why can't they teach their students? A bad teacher should be fired. A good teacher who fails to teach unteachable students should not.

Fair point :P A situation where it's the teachers fault not the students. I'll clarify that in the debate now.

Teachers where hired to teach they don't have ability to teach they should be fired as it has a bad affect on the students. But if it is that the students are being uncooperable then no.

I don't care what the teacher's union says, your teaching career is not a right, if you can't teach then you should be fired and I mean fired, not just sent to the rubber room.

This case scenario would present an unqualified teacher and a teacher should be kept due to performance in the classroom.

The teacher should be kept around long enough to find out why they are unable to teach. The school needs to find out what is being done wrong so that it can be fixed everywhere. If this doesn't help the teaching improve fire them.

In what other professions would that be the standard? For virtually every other field that comes to mind to me, if someone is bad at their job they lose their job. Why should the school expend resources teaching someone how to do the job they were supposed to be able to do to begin with? It makes more sense to fire a truly ineffective teacher (mind you, I hold fairly high standards for making that assessment) and then hire someone who knows what they're doing. The primary concern is not the teacher, although they matter, but rather the students and the latter party should be served with maximum efficiency.

I think most of the time you get warnings before you are fired anywhere. Also, in any field lots of training happens because frequently the stuff learned in school is not directly applicable. Hopefully they can help the teacher quickly and make sure the students don't fall behind.

It depends. Sometimes students are just stubborn, and refuse to accept a new way of being taught. I'm thinking of my class as I type this.. in the past, we've gotten some pretty awesome teachers, but everyone in my class complained about them, saying, "They don't know how to teach!" or "I learn nothing in that class!" But it's not true, because every teacher has a different way of teaching, and just because you cannot accustom yourself to that new teaching method, does not mean the teacher should be fired.

Furthermore, with cases like this... the common reason the students think they're not being taught is because the teacher doesn't explain every little thing to them. They mostly let them teach themselves, and that may suck, but it will DEFINITELY help in the future, i.e. college. I honestly think it's the students who need to have something done about them.. not the teachers.

Some students just don't want to learn, you can't condemn a teacher for that.

That's like suing a rehabilitation center because your relative relapsed, or criminalizing a warden because his prisoners don't reform.

no a teacher should not be fired just because they cannot teach their students. In a lot of cases it is the students making it so that a teacher can not teach what she/hes is wanting to. If the teacher is found to be out right stupid and not doing her/his job then yes fire them but in any other case there are a lot more variables to take into consideration before you can say that the teacher is to blame. Bad grades 80% of the time is because of the students.

The teacher shouldn't be fired. There are a lot of reasons why the students cannot get good grades. A lot of students are not mature enough to understand the importance of education, and they don't listen; therefore, they will not get good grades. If a student is immature or doesn't want to study at all, it's not the teacher's fault. It is the student's fault. If the student wants to learn, it is possible to obtain a higher grade.
