Mostly likely if mankind where to go extinct it would be by our own hand. Be it by destroying the planet or nuclear war or some other way that either ignorance or hatred played a part in.

The second alternative could potentially be an asteroid or large volcanic eruption from the caldera that is residing under Yellowstone but I think we have a greater chance of doing it to ourselves.

I was going to remark on this, but I don't have to. What I would have said is where this should come up … right between you and excon.

The Marxists and Muslims nuking each other once they've subdued everyone else in a duel power struggle.

I believe if we were ever to go extinct, it would be caused by us or a disease created by us. Humans naturally have a need for war, and I think war will be the end of man.

Like any sane person I believe the overwhelming consensus of opinion of the vast majority of scientists. Global warming is real and we've past the point of avoiding a climate catastrophe. No mater what we do, the earth will warm another 2 degrees and the effects of that will be catastrophic. That's the point where Trump worshipers will finally realize it's real. When it warms 2 more degrees after that, life on land will no longer be possible, almost all life on Earth will be in the ocean.

We are witnessing what happens to a nation when Liberal no fault anything goes values destroys our important family values, destroys moral absolutes, etc.

One moral absolute is that all innocent life should be protected. The Democrat Party and Left leaning Progressives have put self love and convenience over the value of an innocent unborn life.

Where do you suppose this leads? If a supposedly tolerant, so called inclusive, open minded Left can usher in No Restriction abortions, there is no limit to what evils can be sanctioned.

We are already seeing mass killings in schools by people feeling unloved from this broken culture. This is the slippery slope that could usher in the next nuclear war.

In the end, God will have the last word as mankind is destroying itself.

The combination of human ingenuity, human stupidity, and disease.

Humans are an ingenious animal.

- People have made broad spectrum antibiotics cheap and widely available.

- People have even figured out how to engineer the DNA of all sorts of critters, including bacteria.

- People have managed to make rapid worldwide travel quick, cheap, and common.

- People have made it easy and relatively possible to reach the furthest and most obscure nooks and crannies of the world.

- People have made technological breakthroughs in water processing and transfer that are so effective that millions, possibly billons of people can live in deserts.

- People have made an interconnected and interdependent world by applying technology and commerce. only a small percentage of people worldwide need to live within 100 miles of where their food is grown, harvested, or slaughtered.

Humans are an abysmally stupid animal.

We breed antibiotic resistant pathogens.

- Doctors commonly prescribe antibiotics for illnesses and infections without first determining whether the illness is actually caused by bacteria. This means that often, the broad spectrum antibiotic that is prescribed does no good, but only selects out for antibiotic resistant bugs that are already in our systems.

- People often take antibiotics just until we feel better, saving the rest of the prescribed medication for a subsequent illness. Because people stop the course of treatment before the prescribed end, we increase the likelihood that some of the pathogens survive, which again selects out for antibiotic resistant strains of these pathogens.

- Some of our most ingenious retards actually try to engineer stronger and more virulent strains of pathogens, often for pure research (the fun of it) but also to pointedly create biological weapons.

People go everywhere and pass our germs around to every population on the planet.

- We even go to the most remote peoples, and share our bacteria with them though both casual and intimate contact. We do not consider whether it is healthy to ensure that every last one of us is exposed to everybody's microbes and viruses. Cultural exchange and diversity are generally seen as indubitable goods. Isn't it fantastic that we can see every culture in some issue or other of National Geographic

- People travel from multiple populations of densely packed millions to interact with other populations of densely packed millions, and while we are there, we exchange and share our viruses and antibiotic resistant pathogens.

- Sooner or later somebody is bound to share some nasty weaponized pathogen.

- We commonly travel in airplanes which are closed tubes with recirculated air and densely packed people from almost everywhere. These are perfect for trading pathogens, especially because most folks will be interacting with other densely packed populations.

only a small percentage of people worldwide live within 100 miles of where their food is grown, harvested, or slaughtered.

- Hundreds of millions, possibly billons of people actually live in deserts.

The Punchline

All of this radically increases the likelihood of a series of pandemics that wipe out most major populations in waves of infection. The primary disease may kill a large percentage of people, but the real killers are the subsequent waves of different pathogens and opportunistic infections attacking survivors who have weakened immune systems.

If this is enough to kill enough people critical to the food, water, and energy infrastructure, then even those who are disease resistant may find themselves starving or dying of thirst.

The only possible exceptions are the remote peoples, but they are likely to be infected by some anthropologist or missionaries.
