Should someone challenged to a debate have the option of being banned?

This is a general question, if someone is challenged to a debate, should there even be the option for them to be banned from that debate?

This question does stem from personal experience, and if you have any opinions on that feel free to add them in.

*Sitara invited me to a debate, one in which she slandars me in the title. I asked for was evidence that I abused her and when she realized she couldn't provide any, rather than be honest, she just banned me.*

When you challenge someone personally, it's because you want to share opinions between two individuals, without interference. A reason that normally causes banning, is offensive behavior and language that detracts from the topic. If someone is so hellbent on insulting the debate creator, that they can't actually arrange a good argument, a temporary ban may be necessary.

I tried to upvote you but hit the wrong button. If you wish to downvote me, go ahead.

You're not as innocent as you portray yourself though.

Objectively, banning should always be an option, but from what I read (which is what this debate is really about) you were not justified, you were just being emotional. Don't take this personally, but if you didn't want to read what she was going to write, you should have steered clear of debating with her personally.

Side: Yes

If you accidentally downvote someone, you can just upvote them twice. It works.

I agree with the idea you are putting forth, but I think the debate creator should only have the option to delete the debate, not leave it open, but where only they can comment. It defeats the entire purpose of a debate.

Temp bans might work, but they should be controlled by the site, like a temp ban button that bans the person for three hours. If the debate creator needs to use it more than once then they might as well delete the debate.

I agree with this, but the option to put a temporary close on should still be available. Just in case the creator of the debate feels you need time to cool off, so they can reopen the discussion at a later date when emotions aren't so high and tensions aren't so tight.

Also specifically in this case, a temporary ban, allows anyone who's lashing out (creator or visitor) to have a cool down moment. I guess what she was doing was venting, and maybe the debate can be reopened later when she's less emotional.

Personal note to you. It's not worth it. She's odd, in how she becomes emotionally attached to each debate. Ex. We had a slavery debate where I was in favor, and she compared me to Hitler, and refused to answer my questions, and overall took it personally.

Again, please provide evidence, something isn't true just because you assert it the most number of times.

The shear fact regarding the amount you lie, as well as your name choice leads me to believe you are a Satanist. I personally believe you are working for Satan with the intent to lead gays to Hell based on some of the arguments (namely the ones about your claim the Christian god permits homosexual sex as well as other misrepresentations of the Bible). This is you calling me a Satanist and a liar. Ding, motherfucker, ding.

When I debated you, you banned me for literally citing Bible verses.....

I have done challenge debates with her in the past, but only when i am the debate creator. I just do not trust her with the authority to ban me without any other reason than i made a argument she does not want to hear.

No, I think it is childish to ban someone from a debate you start with them. What is the point of anyone entering a debate if the other person bans them if they don't like what they say, or when they have been proven wrong.

Holy crap. From the distance I'm sitting from my monitor, you looked like a female. Not a dis, just saying, I've been calling you 'she' and 'her' this whole time.

No worries, it is my responsibility to clearly present my gender, it isn't your fault I picked a picture where my manly beard turns into the under-neck shadow of what I will only assume was a very attractive female. xP

No.

This isn't exactly the picture I was getting when I read through that thread. Sitara was astonished that you actually asked for evidence, but then she gave you some. You then started defending yourself by employing empty words like 'It's just my opinion, doesn't mean it's a fact', to which my response would be "OH REALLY?". It's blatantly obvious that you called her a Satanist, so exactly what were you doing in that debate?

Let me tell you what happened. She was trying to cooperate with you, and then you figured you could to have fun at her expense.

Would you agree that there is a difference between my stating something as fact, and my asserting something as my personal opinion? If no, why?

She was trying to cooperate with you

I'm not sure what you mean by this.
