If the correctional system worked instantly and was 100% effective. Yes or No.

If the correctional system worked instantly and was 100% effective, would you personally still want the criminal to face hard time, or recieve some kind of punishment?

Why or why not?

If the crime is something for which compensation can correct the negative done to the victim, then compensation should be sought. This would not be an added punishment, but rather a correction of the institutionally perceived wrong.

If it is the crime for which there can be no compensation to the victim, it would demand punishment regardless of the level of rehabilitation.

I say yes because, if people know that they will do hard time for breaking the law then that will deter most of them from participating in criminal activity.

The crime rate goes up when their is no severe punishment.

This is a good point. If the correctional system was instant and effective, and we stopped using prison as punishment, then everyone would have at least one freebee before being corrected.

I supposed I can't know until the situation arrives, but I believe that generally I'd be content with the criminal knowing what they did was wrong, and would not do it again.

No. If repairs are fully made for damage done, holding someone against their will becomes an injustice.

Side: No

I'm not a person for revenge. I think the person who committed a crime should make some type of a benevolent reparation to the victim.
