Illegal to buy Nicorette gum if under 18 in U.S.
Nicorette gum helps people who smoke cigarettes quit successfully. While it is true that children under the age of 18 are not allowed to buy cigarettes, it is also a fact that many of them have started smoking habitually regardless. By restricting access to nicorette, it may make it more difficult for them to quit. The flip-side is that many younger people will abuse any type of drug or stimulant they can get there hands on. Nicotine is a mood altering drug. It is also both the most addictive and deadly drug known to man. It is used in minute amounts to make it "safe" but there not health benefits. It's basically legalized poison that is extremely addictive. Nicorette is marketed as a method to "stop" the addiction to Nicotine. Money makers are all to excited that people are using it instead of cigarettes, but it cost a fortune is probably dirt cheap to make. Nicotine in gum, wow, that was hard. $40 a box. Good deal. yep. I just bought my first box today for $50 dollars. Trying hard to quit. It does look like there is enough gum to last for several weeks though, which means it is a significant savings over cigarettes. Additionally, I'm only awake and posting because I can't sleep laying here thinking about cigarettes. wheres my fucking gum?? Side: This is good

Isn't it bad enough that children under the age of 18 already smoke and are addicted to nicotine? We do not need more drugs out there for teens to get their hands on to abuse. I am a Health teacher and a Registered Nurse, so I see who is addicted to this drug, and I know what it can do to people. We always overlook the fact that these kids should not have started using tobacco in the first place. Where are their parents? Then you hear the argument that: well, they are doing it regardless of the law so how can we fix it? No, I don't accept that rational. Uphold the law, punish the offenders, and prevent these kids from getting addicted in the first place. Making nicotine more accessible is not going to stop addiction, that doesn't even make sense. Chewing Nicotine gum increases your chances of getting heart disease. Nicotine is a vasoconstrictor; it constricts arteries, which increases the resistance against which the heart has to pump blood, effectively making it harder for the heart to pump blood through the body. The result is enhanced sheer stress on vessel walls, and repeated nicotine exposure contributes to accelerated health problems that are a function of chronic vascular injury such as coronary artery disease, acute cardiac ischemic events, and hypertension. Additionally, studies have shown that nicotine exposure contributes to stroke, peptic ulcer disease, and esophageal reflux. Further, nicotine may cause wounds to heal more slowly and may be associated with reproductive toxicity. Moreover, nicotine can cause the body to release its stores of fat and cholesterol into the blood. Side: This is bad

I've heard that's its a vasoconstrictor. Thanks for the detailed explanation of what that means. I wasn't really sure myself. I did a google search and found some situations where nicotine is being used to treat disease too. It has been used to help slow memory loss in the elderly, to control the symptoms of parkinson's and also to help people with schizophrenia. Moreover, nicotine can cause the body to release its stores of fat and cholesterol into the blood. Wouldn't mean you'd lose weight. Some people might think that would be a good thing.
