In the next 20 years will China be an ally to the U.S?
Since the end of the cold war, the U.S. has been more or less, the only world super power. China's industrialization and economic growth have made the U.S.'s position seem less secure.
Right now China is one of our leading trading partners, but at the same time, is not a free society.
As they steadily begin to play a bigger role in world politics, do you believe our relationship will be a positive of negative one, and why?
Also, should we be allies with a country that is not free?

I'm not a psychic, but I HOPE that we will be allies with them. In fact, having a powerful ally is better for us. They are not a "free" country, but our Capitalism has rubbed off on them significantly. Over time, as they they become more "developed", maybe our Capitalism will upgrade them into a Fascist country, and then maybe a Social Democracy, and, can i say, a Capitalist Democracy? O yes, our entrepreneurship has done great things over the years. Side: yes
The relationship will be positive. I think it's weird to call them "allies" because that implies we are fighting a common enemy, and I think the era of violent conflict between major countries ended with the advent of nuclear weapons. Even if their economy becomes the most powerful in the world and they use it to push other countries around, globalization will mean their gain is our gain as well. Like JFK said, "A rising tide floats all boats." Side: yes
