Influence of class size on academic achievement of students!

Many people say that most students study better in small class sizes, but Japan is one of the best example that in large size classes also possible to study in high academic level. In Japan the average number of the students per teacher is 40. What do you thimk about it?

Yes, it influences the academic achievement. On my own opinion, 40 is not such a big class size as said of Japan. In our country, big class sizes are also used, some classes range up to 60 to even 100 children. Students are compressed in a small areas because of their eagerness to learn from school. I think this class sizes are not really effective because the attention span of the children are very small or limited. Many children find it hard to focus whenever there are a lot of people beside them. Also, some schools or places are humid and some students would tend to be claustrophobic when it comes to dealing with many people. Also, students would find it hard to hear from their teacher because of the noise given by other people.

Yes there is usually only one teacher available.A larger class means the teacher has a harder time to handle it and might not be able to attend the sudents needs.

yes, it influence on academic achievement. the arguments for

1.Fewer students in the classroom seem to translate into less noise.

2. Gives the teacher more time for class work

3. More freedom to engage students creatively

4. Teacher can give individual attention to struggling students.

5. The youngest age group are more likely to develop good study habits, higher self-esteem.

In my opinion calss size inflences academic achievement of students, because in large class sizes students will be disturbed by other students.

Student who learn through small size class model tend to perform better academically than those in large size class because of close and personal attention from teachers.

I think that class size has a great influence in academic achievement. By reducing the class size activeness of a student increases, I mean everyone will have to talk and participate in discussions. A teacher's attention will be enough to everyone, so everyone would have a chance to show themselves.

I take the view that class size really influence on academic achievement of students. Small class size has better results than large class size. For example, in small size class, there will be more attention on students. Teachers can make more contributions to pupils' development. They will have more opportunity to check every students' homework and focuse on important themes. Most of reseachers show that smaller class size increase student academic performance and gives a better and personal educational experience. I believe that small class size more effective that large class size on academic achievement of students.

In addition class sizes effect to academic achievement. According to stats small classes are much better than large, and it is more comfortable to study in small class because in small class teacher can work with every student individually, also it is imperative to notice that teachers approach has a big impact on academic achievement, especially to those who are in elementary school

I completely agree with you that it influences in academic achievment, because in large size classes students may be disturbed by someone.

I agree with you.. I take the view that small size classes are good, because nowdays class size is increasing and there is less attention to students. According to US researchers fewer students in the classroom seem to translate into less noise and disruptive behaviour from students, which is not only gives the teacher more time for class work but also more freedom to engage students creatively-by, for example, dividing them into groups for specific projects. I also believe that smaller classes also allow teachers to do more discusions on specific topics and issues and check hometasks from all students.

I previously went to a public school. All my classes had at least 30 students, maybe even 40.

I found it next to impossible to get any substantial one-on-one time with a teacher to talk about grades, assignment instructions or anything like that. And I could go on about how the republican party is cutting education funds and whatnot, But that's a different debate.

Now that I'm on an online school with a site that I can go to with about 1 teacher to every 5-6 students (not to mention chat that has a teacher on 24/5), I don't have that problem. And my grades have improved dramatically. I've seen similar effects in some of my friends.

I think that, class size has big influence on academic achievement. Because if in class so many students, teachers do not have enough time to pay attention to all students. Students have less time for individual work with teachers. In small classes less noise and for teachers it has advantages too.

No. I think it doesn't. If you're that good at academics, class size got nothing to do with it. Moreover, more attendance means more good students, and that further states that there must be more competition and competition hones your skills which in turn makes you better !! See, it works in a cyclic manner. If there are good students, with their influence, average students can also get the spirit to do better !!

aaaaaand competition means that there are more people desperate to get a good grade, which means more cheating, which means that kids aren't actually getting smarter, which means that the people who are working honestly are getting out-preformed by the people who are cheating, which means everyone loses.

Not to mention that competition often leads people to insult and maybe even sabotage each other. Also, bullying.

Competition might work on the ball field. It doesn't work at the desk.

I also agree with my brother but In the other hand small class size cant influence cause as I read in some articles, in Asia especially in Japan in class there were 40 students per teacher. Moreover it interesting because the scores or marks of Japanese students higher than the students of small class size. I think this example can turn you view about this.

Ok well if you think that there is less attention in large class and teacher cannot work with all the students... But in some Asian countries as i mentioned before, besides the large class doesnt influence on their achievements vise versa they have high scores..

It is well known that small class will influence because in small class there are 20 students and in large 40.... It is essential because there is big difference between 20 and 40 students... But there is another thing... Why Japan dont have obstacles with this issue cause the have a dicipline and other things, but in U.S parents are far more involved on their child lessons, in a word mybe they don care.

Educators have a multitude of explanations

for why smaller class sizes might be expected

to improve academic performance,

although frequently the ideas are anecdotal.

Fewer students in the classroom seem to

translate into less noise and disruptive

behavior from students, which not only gives

the teacher more time for class work but

also more freedom to engage students creatively—

by, for example, dividing them into

groups for specific projects. In addition,

smaller classes make it more likely that the

teacher can give greater individual attention

to struggling students. Smaller classes also

allow teachers to encourage more discussion,

assign more writing, and closely examine

their students’ written work.
