There are plenty of examples of uneducated people making plenty of money, but intelligence is necessary if you want to make it in this world. If I dropped out of college right now, I'd have a much higher chance of working at McDonald's for the rest of my life than making millions on a brilliant idea. Let's say there are 100 random people. 50 go to college and 50 drop out or don't go. Of the educated, I'd say most of them end up making a respectable amount of money- enough to pay the rent and maybe take a vacation. Of the 50 who are not educated, I'd say at least 49 of them end up in dead end, minimum wage jobs. The other 1 guy got lucky.
Think he is saying intelligence is over-rated. Society has convinced us we need to go to college and get an education to prosper,that has been proven wrong many tomes over.
This is not over if education is overrated, if you drop out of college because you're too stupid to finish it, you won't have close to the Chance you would get to make a fortune.
College and making a fortune do not go hand in hand. Many who have dropped out of college go on to make plenty. Society again has over time made the belief that one must go to college to make a fortune. I know many more laborers who make just as much or more than graduates and making a fortune has little to do with college. There were plenty of fortunes made before college and many that are made without it. Knowing what to do with money has alot more to do with being rich than graduating college.
Intelligence is overrated in the sense that it is the only way to make money. This is not true. But, intelligence still should be highly rated nonetheless.
Common sense is much more profitable,ability pays more over time. Society has convinced many that college is needed to succeed, I'll take common sense and compounding interest to make my millions.
Without intelligence you cannot articulate your opinion on this subject or even comprehend the question. Surely that in itself is enough to show how important intelligence is. If thats not enough then let look at the fact that we are communicating through electrical signals across the whole world when 100 years ago people barely had electricity in there houses. Intelligence is the driving force of society.
Intelligence is the reason why Bill Gates was the richest man on Earth, and not some movie star, singer or sports player. And where every single billionaire got his money.

These women were blessed with looks. Of the millions of people out there who didn't get a college (and sometimes high school) education, there are only a handful who were beautiful or lucky enough to land a modeling, singing, or acting career, or who were able to invent something brilliant. For the rest of us, education is the only hope at living a comfortable life.
Either blessed with looks, or purchased looks (surgical improvements). Youtube is proof that by doing something incredibly stupid or funny, you can become rich and famous. So, if you are somewhat lucky, you too can earn this.

Frequency is irrelevant in this case. I refuted the notion that looks could not get you:
A) Millions of dollars.
B) A steady job.
C) Power over people.
And I provided four cases in which it did. I see no room for dissent here.
It is pretty sad if people believe that the only way to a comfortable life is through education.

Any wage earner that invests 10% of their income over a third of their life into having their money make them money is going to indeed live a comfortable life. Don't buy into society's norms and don't be normal. The average person has little to no savings,little to no retirement and lives pay-check to paycheck. Don't be normal.
By "steady career" i meant a career that is solid and will stay. I'm sure a better adjective exists, but it escapes me.

Few careers last more than 30 years. Besides, a steady career for forty years will only make 1.6 million USD at 40000 p.a. I bet the women I mentioned make that in one year.
This is true, you have convinced me that you can make a successful career without intelligence, but i still must dispute this as i still believe intelligence is not overrated.

Helen Mirren was voted as the sexiest woman in the world, despite being sixty-three. Jodie Foster's career has lasted forty years. She's still fairly successful.
look at all those suckers that disney pick up every year to make a movie then produce loads of merchandise with there face on it. (e.g the suckers of high school musical) the only one thats really sticking around is hannah montana
The more intelligent one is, the more one realizes that he, she, or itself is powerless, ignorant, and threatened. However, this does not mean being intelligent has depreciated or no value. The intelligent are the catalysts of development. They bring forth new understandings and correlate all this diccociated information into trends. Those trends have effectively guided civilized history.
Okay, I don't care whether or not intelligence gives you a good career or makes you rich. Those can happen by chance. But the advancement of technology, science, and society are the affects of intelligence. The computer and Internet we are all typing away at are products of intellience!!! I can't believe any of you would say that it's overrated when you all use a by product of it. If you think that its overrated then you think we are all better without it. By all means, go live your life in the stone-age.

miley Cyrus, and/or Lindsey lohan are making money off of standing around "singing" into a microphone, i dont care if you think their good, i think that the best people are the ones who could survive in a literal "dog eat dog world" just replace dog with crazy raiders with automatic shotguns because they found an abandoned military base.
Without intelligence this topic would never have been made not just that the whole world wide web and computers would never have been made. Electricty would never been invented. We would be lucky if the state of the world was like that of 0AD.
