The current configuration of the United States economy, most benefits those in the upper echelon of society. Our economic policies need to change to aid those whose backs the economy is built, the standard worker. We will try to discourage free trade because it encourages outsourcing. While outsourcing does lead to decreased product prices, it also leads to mass unemployment, hurting the national economy more than it can help. An example of this would be the husk left of Detroit after much of the automotive industry moved to other parts of the country and the world. In 1920, Detroit was the nation’s 4th largest city. It is now only the 27th. In recent years, Detroit has become known for its high poverty and crime rates. In 2013, the city filed for bankruptcy. The plight of the city is directly tied to the outsourcing of jobs in the automotive industry.

By proposing new trade barriers and negotiating more favorable terms for US workers, it will help bolster the US economy. Expanding programs to retrain US workers displaced by international trade will also help.

When Trump started raising tariffs in 2018, many businesses were affected by it. The 25% tax on steel played a major role in the economy. Most of these tariffs were paid by US consumers themselves. While it did provide new jobs in some industries it hurt jobs in other industries. The effect of these tariffs could be seen on the stock market as it went negative. Overall protectionist policies may work in some ways but they are not very effective and in some cases, like this, can backfire.

I agree that if we set up new trade barriers, the U.S. economy will benefit, but establishing new trade barriers will begin trade wars like the one we are in with China at the moment. Other countries will begin to establish trade barriers, and prices of goods from other countries could increase exponentially. Trade barriers may also cause military war between countries.

Option 4: WORK FOR FREE AND FAIR TRADE

The current system of trade is highly unfair, producing wealth for only some countries while other smaller countries suffer. It serves the interests of only large companies within the U.S. or other wealthy countries. The current U.S. trade policies give the larger corporations and businesses a competitive advantage while letting companies hurt by free trade suffer in silence. The U.S. must take a stand in pushing trade barriers and making the WTO more fair in serving every country, not just the rich ones. Fair trade means fair prices and fair wages for all workers around the world. Fair trade, in the long run, will promote more efficient productivity and high skilled jobs within the U.S. Fair trade will also highly improve the international opinion of the United States.

I don't agree with free and fair trade because it doesn't do exactly like promised in policies. Then causing falsified hope in what to bring to the table on sides of poor or rich countries while outsourcing and relying on others to agree, and offer materials or to talk out way into another country lending. As in where the US would have to give back causing more losing of profit while other countries gain. Having a Poor and rich stated country depends on how it is governed, free and fair trade is only slowly making things worse for economies. Several countries depend on work and material trades to thrive.

I argue against free trade because free trade can harm the environment because LDC may use up natural reserves of raw materials to export. Free trade is bad for the environment and lowers the prices for consumers. I don’t think free trade can bring all round development for industries.

Free trade is likely the best option we have for our economy. Although there may be smaller issues with it, there are many things we can do to counteract them. We can do our best to minimize environmental damage while still managing to stabilize our economic issues. Also, free trade can bring development for industries, it will just take time for it to happen at a larger scale.

KEEP THE U.S ECONOMY ON TOP-

Since the end of WW ll, The U.S has been the main leader in the international economic trade system, and has led many countries towards all of the success and stability with trade that they have now. Our partners have also benefited greatly from our trading business by being able to lean on us for economic support and having someone to turn to when they needed any type of resources that they couldn’t get themselves, mainly by making use of the free trade strategy (This includes Little to no government tariffs, quotas, subsidies, etc..). The U.S economy should continue to stay the way that it is because we have made too much progress with our allies in trade, and have opened up a lot of long lasting bonds and opportunities for the U.S, and they depend too much on us for the resources that we export out to them As stated from many articles, America is the second largest goods exporter in the world. We’re mainly known for trading oil, or oil-based products such as different forms of petroleum (Refined petroleum, Petroleum gas, crude petroleum) technology for computers, phones/ any other type of frequently used electronics, and vehicles. All of these goods are essential for the world that we live in today, and if we just decided to remove ourselves from the top spot, our most common trading partners (Canada, Mexico, China, Japan, Europe) would struggle greatly with finding new jobs since the past ones were lost to trade, finding other people to trade resources and valuable treasures with. It would also be daily difficult for us to rebuild trade status again, since we’re all so dependent on each other for resources.

The U.S. is only one of many countries around the world between hundreds of economies and billions of people. Instead of keeping money in the hands of the U.S. our values as a democratic and peace loving society that promotes environmental protection and human rights.

Protect U.S. Workers-Due to the Government and constant negative environment,U.S. jobs that fulfill today's men and womens free time, and giving them ways to live are constantly being brought down and used against work forces. The United States itself produces personally made Multi-millionaires,while striking against “livable wages” and forcing the poor to live unhappily at constant rates. Top elite countries strive to make new innovative ways to improve what they are doing in the trade systems and workforce departments to increase the likelihood of success in the region's population. In saying this, a likely constant flow of jobs is at a severely low rate, in which the economy will begin crashing, workers will lose money over gross periods of time, and jobs will eventually cease to exist. The United States and any other country that sheds down jobs, needs to create a system that adds new needs to the countries for men and women to begin working, and providing for themselves or their families. Boosting today's economy could take upon years and years of dedicating work on both ends of the spectrum. Work can be trade jobs, travel jobs, or stay at home jobs, while nowadays everything is being taken over my computer systems due to the government thinking it's a better and healthier way of going about business.

Keep the U.S. economy on top!

Time after time, Americans have managed to change their opinions about what is actually best for our citizens, however they almost always fail to realize that the best way to benefit our citizens is to benefit the economy. In the 1930’s when the stock market crashed, it brutally wounded the economy. Everything was still expensive even though everyone was broke. This forced thousands upon thousands of citizens into poverty and many even died of starvation or diseases because they could not afford the basic essentials of life. However before and after when prices dropped and wages maintained, everyone was able to bring home a meal for their family every night and poverty rates were drastically lower. Throughout history the well being of American Citizens has always mirrored the well being of our economy. This leads many people to the conclusion that if we can just focus on repairing and upgrading our economy, then everything else will fall into place and our country can once again reunite as a strong and prosperous country.

1 point

I support this claim because some people in the world don’t think that economic growth won’t benefit us at all. What some don't know is that it benefits almost everyone with well paying jobs and can boost their wages. Some religious beliefs in churches tend to reduce economic growth. Economic growth increases state capacity and the supply of public goods and services. I think economic growth is necessary in our world because as far as it goes economic growth is responsible for every generation being better off than their parents' generation.

Option 2 Protect All U.S. Workers: I believe that we should protect all U.S. workers since they are hard working and put their minds to doing the job they do and getting it finished the right way. U.S. workers should be paid more for their work, because what they do Is not easy and they should have all the respect they deserve.

Mnoyes2119(2) Disputed

The main opposing party thinks that if we assist the workers with more pay and benefits that the economy and all will thrive. There is one problem however that is not considered, our citizens would have to make a revolution to even begin to notice a change in the economy. This method is just very ineffective and is definitely not a long term strategy.

If US workers are paid more then living costs will increase on the same scale. Someone or something must shoulder the cost.

Put Values First

The U.S. needs to put its values over its wallet. Putting human rights and environmental protection at the front of is vital to the quality of life around the world. As economies of poorer countries improve, businesses will have to compete fairly on an international scale. The U.S. is founded on concerns for justice, human rights, democracy, and fairness for all and we should have that kind of attitude toward the rest of the world instead of keeping money in our pockets.

You have a valid argument, but if the U.S. decides to focus on the well being of other countries, our economy could fall, and we will no longer be at the top of the economic food chain. Our workers will have to deal with worse pay or worse conditions, and U.S. jobs will be sent to other countries, so there will be an even harder time for Americans to find jobs in America.

Although the United States of America was founded on the principles of justice, democracy, and human rights, that is not how the economy works. Your argument is saying that we should put the needs of others over that of the US. In an effort to help another country, you will likely cause insurmountable damage to the US economy. Nobody ever plays fair in the international economy. The global economy largely works off of the principles of capitalism. The buying and selling of goods. Whoever makes the best for the lowest price, wins. By helping someone else up, you will be taking the US from the lead. If the US puts values above all else, we would likely be alone. Others will still continue their zero-sum game.

1 point

The U.S. will use its position as the leader of world trade to promote free trade policies which include: having little to no tariffs, little to no trade barriers, and the formation of military alliances. There is proof that free trade has benefits; the U.S. and its allies have experienced economic prosperity and growth. The U.S. has even helped its trading partners (like Japan) incline their economies. The U.S. plans to lower tariffs and trade barriers to encourage a free market system which will allow living standards to rise, poverty to be reduced, and availability to better products for cheaper prices. In a world with free trade, countries should be able to maintain peace and prosperity due to the fact that one country's economy depends on the economy of so many others.

Keeping the U.S. on top would benefit us and countries that we influence. If we influence other countries into using free trade policies, they will receive benefit in their economy as well. Using our position in global trade, we can initiate policies that force other countries into free trade.

If we put values over our own wallets then the strong US economy would not exist. If the developing countries gain a comparative advantage due to US support then the economy of the USA will begin to slow down. The amount of money needed to support this ideology is going to be comparable to the "riches of Solomon".

Promoting more open trade with Mexico and other U.S. neighbors to the South will reduce poverty in Latin America, ease the flow of immigrants into the United States, and expand the market for US goods. I believe this mostly. Mexican immigration leading to meaningful improvements in workplace safety for native and non‐Mexican workers and fewer WC claims overall. In my own opinion, I feel like open trade with Mexico and other U.S neighbors to the South will indeed ease the flow with immigrants. Although it might have its consequences with stuff like poverty and expansion in the markets.

Putting values first. This means caring about the health or feelings of someone or something before money and business. The US should put values first because a person or community's well being is more important than any money. Illegal immigrants live in poverty and do some of the most risky things to get to a country with basic human rights like travel the ocean with no proper equipment, travel through deserts, or ride in trucks across the border with days on end without food. While the US is mainly worried about their next business or trade policy to get their next dollar, they should not trade with countries who lack basic human rights and a non-healthy community.

My Option: KEEP THE U.S. ECONOMY ON TOP

Summary of position

This option Keep The U.S. Economy On Top is about economic growth and trading. It tells how free trade gives all countries a chance in protecting international peace and success, because the economic health of one country depends on so many others. Many of the barriers to trade remain, progress in lowering the tariffs and has produced positive results. Living standards are higher, and world trade has gone down. Also poverty has been a really big thing that's reduced. The United States is in position to reap the benefits of international trade. The top position in the global economy would leave the playing field open to U.S. rivals and remove international stability.

KEEP THEE U.S ECONOMY ON TOP:

The United States and many of our neighboring trading partners have enjoyed the unprecedented prosperity and economic growth since World War ll. If the United States was to back away from the top position in the Global Economy, the top position would be a free for all for our enemy countries and the key of international stability will be removed. The free open competition of the market place has the ability to encourage innovation and will help sharpen the efficiency of the United States industries. Free trade gives rise ro an international system. in which countries have interest for keeping peace, maintaining stability and world wide economic growth. If we do not keep the peace with other countries it could possibly cause another war and the cost or war is high, which will effect our economic cost and inflation more than it is right now.War will cause a rise in the United States debt and disruption f our normal economic activity.Promoting more open trade with Mexico and other United States neighbors to the south will reduce the poverty in Latin America and will help ease the flow of immigrants into the United States and expand marketing for U.S goods. Immigration increases potential economic out put for the US and increases the size of our labor force.Immigration increases production for us as well.

Work for free and fair trade

Taking a lead in fair trade will improve the international opinion of the United States

Fairtrade will most benefit poor people in poorer countries around the world, which may greatly reduce the amount of money the United States devotes to foreign aid.

By concentrating on the issues of other countries, the United States could overlook the economic hardships faced by U.S. workers.

i don't support this as using fair and free trade rather than tariffs can minorly or majorly affect workers within the US. Yes, the US is the powerhouse of all the nations around the world, but free trade will hurt those that thrive off of trade and export/import profits.

Free and Fair Trade may very well be the best option. Free trade helps those who are hurt most by an unfair economy and taking a lead in this will most definitely benefit the United States by a large margin. The U.S. should focus on itself in order to help those who are struggling to survive both within and outside of our country.

If the U.S. helps these developing countries in the name of "Fair trade" then it would be giving away free money and advantages to these countries; therefore, the U.S. loses while these developing countries win. The world believes in a zero-sum game essentially.
