Why are you dwelling on the past? The United States, along with Great Britain, established the United Nations, which has became a success. It doesn't matter what happened 70 years ago because today we are each others greatest ally's.
How does that make the United States a bad ally for Britain? If Britain and the United States were enemies, then I could see how it was bad for Britain, but if the money is going to an ally of Britain, how does that make conditions worse for Britain?
In an effort to throw the blame around for the perceived misfortunes of Britain you have become ignorant in such that a single country can not take the blame. Britain was greatly damaged during World War II. Unlike the United States, which was separated by an entire ocean from Europe, Britain was within range of the German military. Not only were the British forced to defend themselves with much difficulty, but their cities were bombed over and over again. This caused massive costs to the British Government. You may also attempt to place the blame on the United States for the costs incurred during the lend-lease program, but it was just business in between trading countries. It is not as if the supplies sent to Britain could be made for free and the US had declared a state of neutrality at the time in regards to the war. You have also stated that the US did not join soon enough, but would you expect a country to be over-enthusiastic about sending its soldiers to die? You may try to use this against me for relation to modern times, but the past 70 years have caused a change in circumstances. The United States and United Kingdom are both members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). As members of NATO, the countries have adopted a system of mutual defense in the event that one member gets attacked by an external country. In other words, if Britain, for example, gets attacked, then the United States along with every other member country declares war on the attacker. In conclusion, your argument's flaw is as simple as this: You are unhappy of the way that Britain escaped from World War II and who do you place the blame on? Its greatest ally. I think you can see the problem here.
Now, as for you comment regarding the money going to the United States, how is it harmful for Britain if the money that was taken from it not going towards harming, but towards helping it?
If you are still too narrow minded to accept any of these views look at it this way: Britain has done bad, the United States has done bad, so why dwell? As the strongest country in the world and the possessor of the most productive economy on the planet, the United States is the best ally that Britain could ask for.
1) they start the league of nations to "prevent wars"
That was Woodrow Wilson's doing, and the big four (Orlando Clemenceau Wilson and George) agreed to put it in the treaty, so it is their own undoing.
2) they then dont join it
That's because the American people never wanted it.
Also France was the major contributor causing WWII for wanting to punish Germany. It's obvious Germany would eventually want revenge but Clemenceau didn't care.
That's ridiculous. America is one of the greatest allies any country could have. Granted we're not perfect, and sure we drag allies into senseless wars now and again, but at the least there is absolutely not a chance of an ally of ours to be taken over by a hostile nation any time soon. And at least 7 times out of 10 were on the right side of world issues - that is pretty good considering human civilization as a whole. The US GDP is almost as big as all of Europe combined. Our military has more toys than the rest of the world combined.
As for America being allies with England - sure, the food is terrible, but did you know that on average British women have the biggest tits? And some of the best comedy comes from England, I'm watching Hot Fuzz right now - great movie.
They are our brethren, our friends and our greatest military ally. They are powerful and inventive, fundamentally just and fair and true to our friendship. Of greater concern to me is our increasingly civil relationship with France.
It is more important to ask where they were at the end. Berlin.
At that time we had a giant empire that could have taken on anyone but america encouraged our empire to ditch us so we needed their help which they didn't give until they got threatened
I dont understand why you rather Britain not be an ally of an America. If Britain ever gets attacked the full might of the American military will destroy the attacker.
"they're too powerful"- you're basically saying that your best ally, the country who is most likely to support you in any conflict, is too powerful.
"I think the rest of the world should stand up to them"- for what reason?
"also they treat Britain like dirt."- in what way?
"where were you at the start of world war 2?"- we were in involved in the majority of World War II. I don't really understand why you used an event that occurred 70 years ago as an example. The United States entered the war and fought alongside Britain, which further strengthened their relationship.
"because they're too powerful"- so in the future every country in the world should stand up to the most powerful country for the sole purpose that it is the strongest country? Thats idiotic.
so in the future every country in the world should stand up to the most powerful country for the sole purpose that it is the strongest country? Thats idiotic.
how is it?
they did that in Roman times and when the British empire was around
That's a ridiculous argument. A terrorist attack can happen anytime at anyplace regardless of how powerful a nation is. If anything I would say the problem is in treating a terrorist attack like a war instead of like a national criminal issue.
... so we're a bad ally because we had a terrorist attack? I mean, if you really don't ever want to worry about a terrorist attack I suppose you could start trying to make all British women wear burkkas, convert everyone to Islam, stop watching TV, live in dirt huts, etc, then the terrorists will love England and you won't ever have to worry about it.
I believe there is something wrong with your thinking - either you're very young or kind of slow.
When push comes to shove the British Army ( The best in the world) will be right with USA. The difficulty would be the lack of popular support for leaders such as Blair and G W bush, warmongers who would lie through their teeth thus the people would not be behind them. However in a direct threat Britain would be with USA no hesitation and likewise USA with UK.
Just glancing at the list I can see that... United states, North Korea, Russia, India, and China are the only countries with over a million active soldiers.
military today is more about the equipment, not the number of people. UK would destroy N. Korea in a one on one war for this alone.
That said, the US has over 70 nuclear subs, and 1 has more nuclear power than any one nation in the world today (source was a report on CNN haven't verified, either way not too far off I'm sure)
We like the UK, the UK likes us, we should be friends.
But they also have one of the best Air forces in the world. They have never really relied on numerical superiority. Britain's strength lies in the intensity of their training and military tactics. Their SAS is one of the most feared forces in the world, only rivaled by the US special forces.
