Seems like, yeah. But most parties form alliances to vote together on issues, so that they can form majorities; what you end up with is basically a two-party vote, because of the coalitions, but voting is really badly split and it's very, very difficult for parties to stick to promises (even more so than in a two-party system), because parties are more or less obligated to vote en masse. Basically, people get a less enlightened/ controlled choice, especially because coalitions may change from election to election. Also, presidential elections? Those would suck. Side: yes

I've thought much about this myself. The only thing I can think of is to actually dissolve the DNC and the RNC, not allow party affiliation on ballots, campaign ads, etc. We make campaign finance reforms, allow anyone that wants to run participate in televised debates and allot funds for all cadidates to run televisions ads. Our first President George Washington said political parites were dangerous and should not be allowed in our political process. I believe he was right. Side: yes
Although two-party system was better than one-party like in fascism & communism, more are needed. In present-day America, more and more citizens are fed up with choosing lesser of the two evils (republican/democrat, conservative/liberal). I would agree that at least third "balancing" party needs to gain more support. Just like in business, more than 2 choices gives everyone better pricing because every business wants to gain as many customers as possible which means better savings for customers. In addition, both conservative and liberal parties are in general either to the far right or far left and nothing ever gets done. I am definitely sure that if a third "moderate" party could help resolve problems. Prior to 2000 elections, I would vote for the Republican Party candidates. Since then, I vote always for the libertarian party because I believe they stand behind solutions which are neither left or right, but rather in the middle. If such a moderate party was strong enough, it would force the left and right side to actually solve problems because if they don't, they will get forced out. In addition, agreements between all three parties would show more will from everyone to work together where everyone would have to give up something from their idea for a solution. 3 proposals for a solution are always better than just 2. A two-party system is a form of party system where two major political parties DOMINATE voting in nearly all elections, at every level. As a result, all, or nearly all, elected offices end up being held by candidates endorsed by one of the two major parties. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Yes, there are tons of parties, but two of them have us by the balls. And no, I am not liberal. I have disagreed with them for years thank you very much. Side: yes
