Is Colonialism Resonsible for Africa's Problems?

For years Africa was exploited by the colonial powers. The overlords enslaved the locals and plundered the resources of the community. Even today many African nations are indebted to western banks through lucrative contracts.

Europe was exploited by colonial powers also. Do you have any idea how many wars Britain and France have fought against each other? What about Eastern Europe, they were exploited by the Soviets and every nation in Eastern Europe is still economically and politically stronger than Africa. Europe was torn apart by two devasting wars yet they did not seem to have a problem with rebuilding their war torn continent. Maybe people should stop making excuses for Africa.

Africa was exploited for over 500 years, and is still exploited today.

That is all.

Half of the African genocides would not of happened if Europe did not colonize Africa.

what about all the genocide in Europe? Europe has gone through 10 times more than Africa has but yet still remains strong compared to Africa. Why do you think that is?

Yeah, they were. It wasn't necessarily the ruling, but how they divided the borders afterwards. The boundary disregarded cultural lines, which caused most of the conflicts.

Side: Yes

Colonialism is responsible. Imperialism is wrong and the only objective for imperialism is to conquer and then forget about the poverty and starvation that occurs later.

No way!!! I get so tired of the same argument presented every different way. It is blame "whitey" for everything. This time it is Africa's problems. Well, I got news for you. Africa was inferior to Europe and in chaos long before colonization ever took place.

Further, what about Liberia and Ethiopia. They were never colonized and both of those countries are a total mess. And please, don't say Ethiopia was colonized, they were occupied for 5 years by the Italians.

Also, how long do you white, apologetic liberals want to play this game with Africa. Colonization has been over in most countries for 50 years or more. That is plenty of time to re-establish themselves and prosper. But I am willing to bet that 100 years from now someone will post this same discussion, blaming Europe. Probably 2000 years from now also, when Africa is still in shambles, it will be the white mans fault.

One last thing regarding the borders. If diversity is so wonderful here in the USA, as liberals proclaim it to be, then don't blame diversity for Africa's problems. But I already know what answer is coming. Lots of diversity in a mostly white nation will strengthen it but too much diversity in Africa is no good.

Lets keep our eye on Sudan. Southern Sudan, mainly black has now separated from the Arab, Muslim north. I guess both will prosper economically and politically since Europe will no longer be responsible for the problems there. yea right.

Ethiopia was colonized for 5 years; however, this is not the main reason for its mess. Other African nations that were colonized such as Somalia cause the problems. In the 70's the "Soviet backed" Ethiopians fought against the "Chinese backed" Somalis. The repercussions of this global proxy war are still felt today.

Colonization has been over in most countries for 50 years or more.

The colonialism still goes on today. This time it is financial. Foreign banks lend money to African nations with massive int-rest rates. This is not fair.

Of course it is fair. Why should banks lend money to African nations at a low interest rate when their risk of repayment is much higher.

By this, I mean yes and no. You see Europe can not have clean hands because they left many African nations bankrupt and sowed the political seeds of American and Soviet competition in the area. This created many modern day guerrilla fighters. However the African themselves receive Billions dollars of aid, humanitarian relief, and foreign intervention but yet they are still declining in the quality of their lifestyle. Also due Human desire for power many of their governments are weak and divided causing many food and water shortages.
