Is India growing increasingly Anti-muslim?
India, since its inception, has heralded its own notion of secularism which ensures freedom to practice any religion. Unlike, Pakistan, born to uphold Islam, India was a diverse state with multiple languages and religions. Over 70 years ago, a narrative was created during the freedom struggle to unite Indians against the British and to forge its nationhood. This narrative was one of unity. Of course, several fragments and cracks were band-aided to avoid conflicts. India has always remained a nation of conflicts and riots, troubled by insurgents, militant groups, and separatists. Since Prime Minister Modi won the elections in 2014, there has been a constant surge in narratives of hatred. India is a federal nation and many states have been banning beef, halal meat shops, denying female students from wearing hijab in schools, and banning Muslim shops from making businesses near temples. To me personally, it sounds like India is deliberately targetting the Muslim population. What does it sound like to you?
