The bailout plan didn't pass because citizens object to having their tax money spent to bail out wall street traders who made bad decisions. The fact that the 700 billion dollar figure was just a number pulled out of a hat shows it wasn't thought through. Even Rush Limbaugh railed against the bailout plan. There was enough public outcry that the politicians voted in line with their constituents.

Supporting Evidence: $700b - "we just wanted to pick a really large number" (www.forbes.com)

Whether or not you agree with the proposed bailout plan, it's intention was to help save our economy and both repubs and dems agreed that it would have a positive effect. Then the repubs voted it down, and apparently they blamed Nanci Pelosi. For elected officials to claim that they voted against something that might help save the country just because of what someone said is ludacris. If she gives another speech what are they going to do next? Give U.S. secrets to Iran?

Hurting the entire nation just to prove a point is childish and should not be acceptable from the people who lead our nation.
