Is PC getting out of hand?

I remember when it was cool to call someone retarded because they were acting stupid. ):

Now I get sent to the office and get yelled at. Well, it depends on the teacher really. The more sensitive ones can even get set off by damn and hell.

But yeah, I think it's gone too far. It's ironic since this generation feels like the loosest when it comes to the tongue.

I take less kindly to "retarded" than to "fuck".

Mental retardation was the technical name given a variety of categories relating to mental functioning. The term was used to replace terms such as "idiot", "imbecile", and "moron", which had all taken on a shameful negative connotation.

Retarded is now taking own a pejorative connotation all its own from being used as an insult. We can't just change terminology every few decades because people are small-minded. Perhaps we could just learn not to make fun of medical conditions or any other condition someone is born with (including homosexuality and the like).

Or at the very least, perhaps we could learn to be a little more creative in our insults. I mean, if the point you're trying to make is that someone is ridiculously stupid, resorting to the easiest insult possible isn't really the best way to prove your intelligence.

Lets take a look at the most PC person in the world:

-A sampling of every hairstyle and colors including baldness

-Jewelry of every possible religion (except Christianity, that would be hateful)

-One side of shirt long sleeve, the other short sleeve

-One arm covered in black skin, the other white

-Body is asexual in shape and appearance

-Face is not ugly or attractive, just there

-Speaks every language fluently, stays mute for 1 hour every day

-IQ is 120 in the morning, then steadily falls to 60 by midnight

-Bracelets for every disease and cause

-One leg is Asian brown, the other is Hispanic brown

-Walks for half the day, uses wheelchair the other half

(from Glenn Beck's book: "An Inconvenient Book")

Se how ridiculous it's getting? No? You should when terrorists are called misguided criminals. when an illegal alien is called a citizenship less citizen.

Yeah, Glenn Beck does like to make up fake people then hate on them.

No one in this country cares if someone wears Christian jewelry, 85% of Americans are Christian.

It's the sign of a hack, when they have to make up a fake war or enemy to get attention.

I'm against being PC too, but Beck tries to make it look like Christians are the victims, when they're the purpatrators 90% of the time.

They cry when a private business or government funded operation doesn't put up an effing Xmas tree,

then demand the Bible be taught in school.

They want the 10 Commandments in courthouses. They get pissed if a representative swears in on the Constitution instead of the Bible.

1. No one wants to call terrorists "misguided criminals" that is something extreme right crazy talking heads like Glenn Beck and Hannity made up to perpetuate fear hate and ignorance, it's an attempt to make a group of Americans (liberals) the enemy, by claiming they are somehow with the terrorists because they want to call them "misguided criminials" (which they don't, and wouldn't be even if they did,) and therefore somehow they are anti-american. It's disgusting and dumb. And the day the majority of Americans fall for those kinds of back-handed mindless psychological divide and conquer garbage tactics, is the day we elect another GW to ruin the country.

2. "Citizenshipless Citizen" is more bs that has never been uttered by anyone but the far right claiming it's a liberal pc thing. It's a bad joke.

You can have a PC arguement without thinly veiled innuendos that anyone not in the Rush/Beck/Hannity crowd is a freakin terrorist.

Glenn Beck only hates PC, when it's white and Christian. He would throw a fit like a riddlin addled third grader if a school district said a teacher couldn't wear a cross around her neck. Then two weeks later he would throw a fit if a teacher dared wear a Burka, "This is America! She's a terrorist!" he would yell like an iditot.

actually, they get pissed when PCfags try to change things JUST BECAUSE of the christian influence.

the christmas tree thing comes from when PCfags want Christmas trees to be TAKEN DOWN.

10 commandments comes from when PCfags try to remove them from the courthouses.

bible taught in school can go extreme, but in World History we do learn about all or most religions (but little about Christianity).

Helen Thomas considers terrorists freedom fighters. Not some left wing blogger either. Most liberals consider her the most accomplished and veteran reporter.

and, of course, MSNBC loving the argument "one man's terrorist, another's freedom fighter". actually, it's worse than calling them misguided criminals, cause at least they acknowledge them as criminals.

He's got a point, but it comes out sounding like those people who complain about "reverse racism."

Trust me, I am not a fan of political correctness (south park is one of my favorite shows), however I think Beck is confusing people asking for open minededness with rampant PC. People aren't asking you to change yourself (as he is implying), just don't belittle other people's differances (unless it's funny ;))

"I think Beck is confusing people asking for open minededness with rampant PC."

Meh, I think you just have a hard time supporting a conservative like Glenn Beck. You gotta find something.

I do agree with you on how unPC can be very funny, I think Family Guy is hilarious. I'm pretty sure this, like most of Glenn Beck's stuff is supposed to be kind of funny, there was a picture and everything(I would have put it up, but I couldn't find it. It was in the book though, you should read it.), Well, I thought it was funny at least.

Look, it's like with swearwords. Everyone is afraid of them. They don't want to hear it. I don't think it should be on the TV but when in my own circle of friends, people get AGGRAVATED and butt into my conversations and tell me I'm going to hell because of what I said, even jokingly, something is severely messed up.

Freedom of speech is supposed to protect our right to shoot our mouths off like assholes, but now the good ole' suburb white America community who loves to shelter their upper middle-class children from everything are so touchy you could snap a twig in the wrong place and it'll set them off. It's like you shocked them so severely that they demand to take action!

"My children don't need to be exposed to this! It's wrong! Oh my goodness! How DARE YOU!?" Maybe at the ages of six and seven it's a little odd, but it's inevitable. If you go to the city, nobody cares anymore, urban centers, beat down and broken communities who have to huddle together in order to stay alive. Those people have soul, they understand the meaning behind words and don't let them burn them down.

Yeah, I hate the suburb America. Oversensitive. I live in a coal mining town. It's a melting pot with a great culture. The suburbies suck the life out of this place and destroy the culture because everything is WRONG! There's even a statue of an Indian they wanted to take down because you could see his genitals. Uh, it's art? Nah, it's wrong. It's all wrong because it shocks little Timmy! Timmy, the poor sap will probably lead a boring life though.

Sorry I kind of ranted there.

Side: yes

Yeah, you were ranting, but you were ranting the truth. This over-sensitive sheltered situation may end up being our downfall. Toughen up!

Side: yes

Well it's not so much the over sheltering it's that these people act like they have no souls. No spirit. Just... the same gross AMERICAN FAMILY. Like everyone has to live up to everything they see in the movies and buy a white picket fence. It's just disturbing to see someone so empty. Devoid of any culture except pop culture. I hate that. It's just ugly. Get dirty, get wild, experience life. It's a gift not a curse. Exploit it, embrace it. Love it.

Yes PC is getting way out of control when basic historical facts cant be discussed. If you disagree with anyone who can claim a minority you are labeled racist.

Side: yes

PC has been out of hand since the 90's its only getting worse and i suspect it will continue to get worse to the point you cant say anything without someone being offended

Side: yes

What ever happened to the good old days when i could call a retard a moosh brain, or squishy-faced loser. If they cant understand what im saying, and stick up for themselves, all the tree hugging bastards who recycle their sandals, and run around saving the rain forests can go to hell for sticking up for a group of people who are a complete waste of resources.

Yes, I also believe that political correctness is really getting out of hand. Its the media and the prolong use of people that are in the authority. Media plays a vital part in our society so its their huge responsibility to act and use language in its best form. I think we also should be smart enough and defy the norm and stand our ground from the things that we believe in politically incorrect.

Side: yes

It's the media, not political correctness, that has gotten out of hand. We I guess let them because they are television.

I think you are right, but it's kind of both because the media is way to PC. They are the root of the problem, but it's not just them. Companies and education (even politicians) are going crazy tying to be as PC as they can be. And it bothers me.

This is something I hear conservatives whine about a lot, but I don't think it has much bearing on reality.

Just last Friday I was at a party and this one (Mexican) girl walks in and says, "sup, nigs?" Nobody freaked out and called the affirmative action police. One guy said sarcastically, "that's not at all offensive...", and others kind of laughed, but nobody really cared.

Maybe according to Fox News the world is run by PC nazis - but in the real world, as long as you aren't being deliberately racist, sexist, or whatever people are mostly cool with it.

Side: No

I don't think so. A person just has to be on the guard at all times and be careful of what he says.
