Definitely unethical. The swaying factor for me was that many Indian women are powerless to make their own decisions and could be forced into surrogate motherhood. I would imagine that added to the stigma of carrying a child that is not your husband's could do some serious psychological damage.

I think it is unethical. The poor in India have absolutely no voice and are exploited for whatever the upper castes want. This is another example of the lower caste Indians being used as petri dishes to grow babies at a cheap cost. There will be severe long term psychological issues to these women, not to mention the kids who will want to know who's oven they were baked in.

unethical. there are tons of children already living who need homes. the way humans view adoption today is seriously flawed. the amount of work and money decent people have to use to adopt today is outrageous. Money can motivate anything unethical. (@riotous)Just because they are receiving a hefty paycheck doesn't make it right. In fact, I argue it makes the situation MORE unethical.

I have actually been touched by some stories of women who have agreed to be surrogate mothers out of love for a sister or a friend. I never thought of it as a business, as it’s happening in India. But in this case, it’s very unfortunate that these women there don’t have a better opportunity to make that kind of money and end up submitting themselves to this procedure. But since they see this as an opportunity to help their own families while contributing to the creation of another, I don’t think it’s unethical. As long as they are provided with the appropriate health care to deal with the situation in the best way possible and they freely choose to do it, I believe they do create a “win-win situation” as stated in the article.

I have a friend that I have known since childhood. She is unable to conceive or carry a child. If she asked me to donate eggs or my womb for her to have a child, I would be more than willing. Many people who are unethical are undeservedly mothers while many good women who'd be excellent mothers cannot have a child of their own. Adoption is exceedingly expensive and encourages stealing or selling of children in third-world countries. I think it's a blessing when a woman loans her body to another for the sake of childbirth. A surrogate mother should be lauded and respected, not ridiculed or demeaned for letting the parasite feed off her body for nine months (give or take)

hello! i think that surrogate motherhood is an solution of actually problem for many families who can’t have children and to continue their family by themselves, because of many factors, like ecological or genetically. Always in different ages people have a problem like infertility, unfortunately, infertility is an extremely common condition affecting one out of seven people, which leads to many different complexes. Today the method of Surrogate motherhood developed in a great medicine progress and performed by the highest technology level. It is an opportunity for many people to have a child. Also it is very popular in many countries, for example, in Kharkov, by this way, were born over 400 childhoods only during 10 years! Probably one of the biggest benefits of surrogacy is that it can enable them to produce their own biological child with their genetic similarity, by using of parent’s own egg and sperm and thereby carry on their bloodline.

so, i don't think, it is unethical, because it helps a lot of families be happy!

These women are bringing a new life into the world that will be cared for by its new family. At five times the normal annual salary for being a surrogate mother, I'm sure they sign up for it.
If you could be paid $240,000 (5x average us salary) to be a mother for nine months, wouldn't you? If they were denied the opportunity, they might decide to go into the sex industry instead. Which is unethical in that choice?
