What the hell is "true" love? Is love not love? I say, whatever is love IS true love. So then, what is love? It depends, there are as many kinds of love as there are persons. What most consider love is really just the chemical desire for sex, this is the lowest form of love. Not to say there is something wrong with it, it's just the first layer.

At the highest peak, love is not a relationship any more, love becomes a state of your being. At this point, love is given just for the joy of giving it. It is unaddressed: you don't love this person or that person, you simply love. You are love.

The people you care about are people you love. For real. Of course, most of the people you care about you probably share a platonic love for. A 'romantic' true love consists of more than just wanting to be around a person because they make you smile. It involves caring for that person as much or more than you would care for a sibling or a parent. People want to believe that a 'true love' relationship has no faults or conflict, but the romantic portrayal in popular media is wrong. Everything comes with its trials, and knowing and accepting that, committing yourself to the people you love and trying your hardest to help them and do what's best for them is what I believe true love is.

Just ask those that stand in front of a mirror for hours if there is true love. Everything else is just an infatuation. Divorce, separation, even murder show that all else is nothing more than infatuation. Those that love themselves, never get divorced. This is the only true love that exist, it is also unfortunate that it is.

according to your line of argumentation you are wrong... you forget one factor... suicide.

I didn't forget one, one would not be standing in front of a mirror saying how much they love themselves, if they didn't like him/herself. Tell me how many people commit suicide that loves themselves. I am guessing it is zero. So the only ones that have true love is still those standing in front of a mirror.

yes there is a thing called true love it is when two people who are in love will do anything for each other and their love can withstand any problem or trial in a relationship

People are predisposed to feel love, and many do, there's no reason to doubt this.

I don't think it's magical Disney love though,

when speaking of a romantic relationship it seems to be a combination of timing, self-preservation (the desire to not be lonely), and other deeper psychological factors I'm not going to pretend to understand.

I can say I've been in "True Love" twice, unfortunately the physical part of that love died. My theory is up to a certain age, the physical is more important than the psychological. If one can maintain both somehow, in aproximately equal proportions, that certainly should qualify as true love.

seems to me like your always talking about homosexuals... why do you think about it so much? your interest in homosexual activity raises questions in my mind?

argument

"Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."

love for ones self... that can fade... love for someone in a sexual sense that will fade even quicker... but unconditional sacrificial love will last for ever... christian or not

Unconditional sacrificial love does not last forever, it only lasts as long as it is remember. Once the story is no long passed on, it dies. I wonder how many acts of heroism and sacrifice are forgotten because people failed to pass on the tale. I bet the library of Alexandria had some amazing tales within it's walls.

I like ryuukyuzo's reply.

when I think of "true love" i think of love as a inherent seed inside of us, that blooms in the sunshine of a special other.

it seems most loves are emergent though, and result mainly from people's physical relations.
