Is blackface inherently racist?
This leads to a broader point, is jokingly mocking race and/or culture actually racist? Banter is a way to bond and has no ill will behind it, merely a desire to be witty and funny (if actual banter rather than mean-spirited insults, which is a fine line that some would argue is subjective). Someone who identifies with something that is being mocked in good spirit may be upset by being mocked, however they misunderstand the intent and why people find it funny.

It is not "inherently" racist. It was used, years ago, quite innocently as a comedy prop. Since then MOST of U.S. have learned that it was/is insensitive and even cruel. Al Jolson used it often. Not to be racist, but, as a prop when he sang "Mammy" or "Swanee". I watched him often. He didn't use it to be racist, at that time we hadn't realized, yet, the potential of "black people". The realization that they were "just like us". About that time the Tuskegee Airmen, among others, were beginning to open our eyes and we were just beginning to learn to respect others that were "different" to us. Today, there is no doubt that it is racist! Anything another race feels is degrading TO THEM is racist! They have the right to CHOOSE what makes them feel "slapped", and we should respect that! It shouldn't be someone's "right" to walk all over another's "rights". Is the name "Redskins" racist? If the Indians feel it is, IT IS! Side: Yes

Anything another race feels is degrading TO THEM is racist! They have the right to CHOOSE what makes them feel "slapped", and we should respect that!... Is the name "Redskins" racist? If the Indians feel it is, IT IS! Does this mean that absolutely everything can be racist just because someone decides it to be? It shouldn't be someone's "right" to walk all over another's "rights". Nobody is saying anybody doesn't have "the right to CHOOSE what makes them feel "slapped"". If anybody wanted to make feeling something illegal I would be the first to argue against it. Side: No
Anything which degrades or scoffs at the characteristics of another race or nationality should be considered as being cruelly insensitive at best and downright racist at worst. To try to justify the use of such a crude and thoughtless name as blackface as only a prop to enhance some act of entertainment is no more than an obnoxious display of insensitivity and a cruel disregard for others . Anything which degrades or scoffs at the characteristics of another race or nationality should be considered as being cruelly insensitive at best and downright racist at worst. But when you call black people and Muslims "filth", that isn't racist? Gotcha buddy. To try to justify the use of such a crude and thoughtless name as blackface as only a prop to enhance some act of entertainment is no more than an obnoxious display of insensitivity and a cruel disregard for others . Did someone murder you and replace you with a liberal? You are a very strange person. Side: No
Wrong. As I typed that lure for shitheads response I gave Frankenswine, (that's you) 30 seconds to a few minuets to swallow the bait hook line and sinker. Man, man oh man, you're so monotonously predictable. It's great being able to manipulate the brain dead. Look out shithead, I'll be setting another bait response quite soon. Bet you go for it. People do similar things to other races all around you, but you don't notice because no one feigns outrage. http://www.jackasscritics.com/images/ https://imgix.bustle.com/2017/5/26/ Side: No
