Joey Chestnut has won the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest for 5 consecutive years. Can eating be a sport?

Many years ago, competitive eating was not considered a sport because it was just random guys competing in these events, but today, it is changed. Joey Chestnut really prepares for the challenge. It starts with the strength of his jaw, how he eats and how much eats with each bit, and how much liquid.

A sport is defined as any competitive game and a game is defined as "A pursuit or activity with rules performed either alone or with others, for the purpose of entertainment." So yes technically competitive eating is a sport.

Side: Of course

I think so. The competition involved does make it a sport.

I don't think that eating contest would be considered a sport, it's fun to watch once a year but thats it

I could see where it could be a contest but not a sport.

Contest? Yes. Sport? No. It's definitely a contest, but to call it a sport, I don't know about that. I would not consider it a sport AT ALL.

I wouldn't consider wrestling a sport either if I were given a chance. Eating too much isn't a good thing and it has adverse effects unlike other sports that are for good.

Side: Kidding Right

I would not say so at all. A competition? Yes, most definitely though not a sport.
