Is egalitarianism basically feminism?

I look at the definitions and they are pretty much the same.

No, it's not. An egalitarian is someone who holds the mistaken belief that all people are equal, and although this misconception includes the female of the species, it also embraces all racial and ethnic groups. So, it is no more a feminist assertion than it is a black power declaration or a gay rights statement.

An egalitarian is someone who believes all people have equal rights, which is far different from what you said. People are different in all kinds of respects, such as physical size and ability, mental acuity, emotional stability, physical appearance, health, defects, etc. But, we all have EQUAL rights, or should have!

There are egalitarian forms of Feminism, but not all forms of Feminism are Egalitarian.

I agree with you. I would have stopped my comment with that sentence but the rules of this forum would not let me post without more words.

while feminists strive for equality between men and women, that is not the same as striving for equality for everyone with differences... be they 'race', religion, sexual identity, or anything else.

.

and before some moron pipes up with the straw man that equality is code for communism.... it does not mean everyone has the same THINGS... it means everyone has the same OPPORTUNITY and OUTCOME is only dependent on achievement from those opportunities

.

when women are given the chance to answer first in science class... they can achieve the same outcomes

.

when blacks are given the chance to overcome poverty... they can achieve the same outcomes.

.

when felons are given the chance to prove themselves... they can achieve the same outcomes.

It is in the mind of the beholder. Egalitarianism calls for equality for all, so, feminism would be a part of it.
