Is getting a pet raccoon a good or bad idea?

I'm considering it, they're such smart animals.

I thoroughly enjoy watching people make huge mistakes with their choice of pet so...

Well, then you have a Taylor Momsen look-a-like, so you can take it to parties, and earn money through photo shoots. It'll be great!

It really depends if have you done your research, saved a little cash and are prepared to do what is needed to take care of your new pet. Thats just what i think.

On the downside the majority of that big brain is used to find the exact section of a roof to burrow into in order to cause the most possible damage.

Rabies though is easily cured with a shot and is always fun at family gatherings.

It's not like I'm going to grab one from the woods, though I could. lol

I'm going to get one from a breeder, and it'll be a kit, so I'll raise it.

And the reason they destroy is because they're curious animals, so you get them toys and maybe a dog to play with. keep them busy, and you keep them out of trouble.

As for the rabies, the vet.

I don't know about where you live, but they're legal here, so the vet will take care of it. :)

I don't know Saurbaby, I've heard bad stories about this... I'm not sure they're meant to be tamed.

A couple years ago they got in my house through the cat door and made a mess... will they use a litter box? I was wondering because they took a shit in one of my potted plants?

They will use a litter box, and it's all about raising them. Of course the wild ones made a mess of your house lol They're curious animals, and so they let themselves in to look around.

I've researched a lot, basically keep them busy, raise them from a kit, and get the fixed and they're usually manageable. Oh, and don't let children play with them. :) I want one really bad, they're my second favorite animal, and I sure as hell am not getting my favorite :(

A raccoon would be viewed as an exotic animal and most municipalities restrict such ownership.
