Is it bad to be predictable?

People say "you're so predictable!" or "that ending was so predictable!" like predictability is such a bad thing. Why? Is it better to be random now and then just for the hell of it?

If you are military leader, yes. .

Side: Yes

OK, that's definitely a situation in which you don't want all your plans to be known.

I know, right? One of the keys to winning a war is to to control the enemy. Half of every war is mental warfare.

Side: Yes

Actually, all of government is predictable, they want to destroy freedom, yet we sit and watch.

Not really. Some of them are sneaky bastards. Show me an "honest politician", and I will show you someone who has not been caught yet.

You should try to be spontaneous. People shouldn't be able to predict anything about you, because that'll make you interesting. You only live once anyway, so you might as well live a daring and exciting (unpredictable) life.

Side: Yes

I agree. Banned.

Dang, I didn't see that coming, very unpredictable. What was that about?

Side: Yes

Although this is subjective, in general it's better to be less predictable.

When we laugh, it's usually because we were surprised, or because we learned something. I don't think I'm explaining this well, I've already erased 7 attempts at wording this.

Here's a video watch it if you want to learn why we laugh. It's pretty cool, and relevant to why surprises are generally better.

Why do we laugh?
Side: Yes

of course it is!!! random is the only way to go

I think people can generally be more comfortable around predictable people.

EDIT: What's up with the debate scores? Doesn't seem right...

Side: No

Yeah, the points are very unpredictable, aren't they? Do you feel better knowing that the point system is totally random?

Side: No

No, it is not. I prefer it when one is not predictable, but it doesn't matter too much.
