Is it wrong for humans to kill something till extinction?

kill till extinct

This debate is meant to replace the "Does every living thing have a right to exist?" debate (see the following link for more details).

It's natural to kill things. But it's also natural to starve to death later. Causing the extinction of one species can have profoundly terrible effects for an ecosystem on the whole, potentially removing some particular source of "primary goods" for our own consumption. Unless it's okay to starve other humans to death, it's probably not okay to just kill of an entire species.

There are certain things we should kill untill they are eliminated from the face of the Earth; like pathogens.

Typical Joe switch-a-roo card trick! The debate clearly is meant to imply animals and not disease nor those things creating disease! The next thing he'll drag out is the FACT that diseases have, at times killed off animals...but we've always rescued them and arrested those diseases, or tried to.

There is no reason for man to wipe out an entire species in the animal kingdom for all have their purpose in the wild. What would be the reason to do this? Anyone?

Just because we have the power doesn't mean we have the right to do so. If we know we are hunting/killing something to extinction why should we continue? We have the methods to reverse these saddening trends and if we are not willing to use them we should at least agree not to continue slaughtering things weaker than us when we know their species is nearing extinction.

While it can be stated that animals naturally kill and possibly have brought other species to extinction they did not know what they were doing, but we do. Killing things weaker than you just because you have the power is a great abuse and great step to accepting the killing of larger animals, humans, that look different, think differently, and act differently than you.

I read your initial post and saw your position on pathogens and i agree that they should be killed completely, but it seems that few in power are willing to go to the great lengths to see that happen. My response, if it wasn't as obvious as i was hoping, was in regards to endangered animals such as clouded leopards and black footed ferrets as well as other animals.

Just because other creatures do this in nature does not mean it's ok for us.

We are unique in our ability to reason, and our knowledge of the world. That rationality also comes with a responsibility to use our knowledge to the best possible ends. Only if there were an us vs. them moment (bacteria perhaps) would I support this.

Side: Ofcourse

Natural creatures have hunted other creatures untill extinction.

We have removed certain pathogens from the face of the earth, like smallpox.

Polio, smallpox, malaria parasites, etc. should be eliminated. So, no, it is not wrong for humans to kill something till extinction.

Okay, pathogens joe. You win.

Outside of that though. No.

Except spiders, because I f*&^ing hate spiders. I don't care if their extinction leads to the eventual destruction of every species on earth. Spiders need to die.
