Is karate more valuable, or running for self defense?
What do you think? Tough choice right?

I think karate is more valuable because karate teaches you things like Jodan-sugi, Chudan-sugi, Gadan-sugi.(idk how to spell them) But these skills could really injure someone badly if done right. My evidence is that a lot of people have noticed that within karate white belts, and yellow belts, are generally afraid of blue and green belts, and basically terrified of brown and black belts. And all the belts generally listen to their sensei, more than any other athlete would listen to their coach, cause they probably have known that their coach is strong enough to kick them in the face with ease. I think as athletes get better in karate, their self-defense would increase, and in the case of a real danger, karate would be more valuable to try and most likely be safe, and not dead or injured badly. I think running is the easy way of defending yourself in a tough situation. Honestly karate is the type of self defense that would most likely work in a situation when the bad guy has a gun, but running sideways, and if you sprint while moving left-right a lot, it might be hard for the dangerous person to aim and shoot you. Anyways, another thing is that, if you run fast, you can hide behind something. Also in some situation running is better, cause if you are in a large group of people, all you have to do is outrun everyone else. If you are fast, that is highly possible, but if you do karate, outrunning someone might not be the easiest thing for you, unless you are also a runner. Cause karate=being stiff, and running=being quick. Haha stiff and quick kind of seem to rhyme even though they really don't. :) Side: Running
If you had lived 200 years back then maybe karate would have been useful because that time gun wasn't very popular and it would have been useful to knock the knife out of a bandits hand and save the day. But nowadays people are very clever and guns are becoming more and more powerful so unless you are a very good karate player you won't live to see the next day. Side: Running

My grandpa is a 6th degree black belt, 2nd highest in the state of CT. Hes told me several times that if i can escape an attacker to do so and do not engage them. He says karate is for when there is no other option and only for self defense. Its about being sensible and rational, not freaking Rambo. Even karate masters run from danger if that is the wisest thing to do in that situation. So really this debate doesnt work. Side: Running
