It is a sexual act, but it is not sexual intercourse. Oral sex stimulates us and ends up in the same general category due to decency and the emotions it is generated by. However it cannot lead to reproduction by itself. So it misses one of the dominant criteria for sex.

But, it does come down to what context you're trying to refer to.

1. If you mean the act of making love, no, it's not sex. It's considered either foreplay or fooling around.

2. If you mean a broad overview of sexual acts (given that sexual acts are considered sex), then yes, it's sex.

3. If you mean bragging rights (like talking with your buddies about what you did with a girl), then no, it's not sex. It is, however, the next best thing. But you can't tell your friends "dude, I just had sex" and then they're like "which position" and you're like "well, it was a blow-job". They will be all like "bitch, please".

4. 69ing could be considered the closest thing to actual sex since both genitals are being messed with. But the mouth is the medium, so I wouldn't consider it sex.

5. If someone licks someone's asshole, do you consider that sex, as well? Since someone wants to define oral sex as sex, where does it become "not sex"?

The nature of vaginal and anal sex is vastly different than oral, well they may share many attributes they possess enough differences that oral sex should be in a class of its own. The name doesn't adequately describe the experience; you don't have oral sex then proclaim that you have just had sex(in general) and still maintain accuracy in your words. The word "sex" doesn't refer to oral sex in everyday usage, because other distinct meanings take up the word. In short, the name "oral sex" is a misnomer, because it doesn't fall under the general category of "sex".

Sex, is strictly penetration of the vaginal canal with a penis. Oral sex is, cunnilingus or penetration with the tongue or in the woman's case sucking a mans cock. If sex is any act that can be performed in public kissing is sex in most middle eastern countries, hell even the U.S. had/has public displays of affection laws, depending on the state.

I do not consider oral sex to be sex. They are defined differently. The word 'oral' is my first clue it is not sex. Sex to me means intercourse and in daily word use people refer to intercourse as sex. If I gave someone head I wouldn't say I had sex with them, that would imply I had intercourse. I'd say it was oral or cock sucking or whatever you like to refer to oral sex as.

It doesn't fit the commonly accepted idea of what sex is. If you tell people "I had sex", everyone would assume you mean sex as in penile penetration of the vagina.

If you mean something else, you have to specify: "I got a blow-job", "I jerked off", etc. You can use the word "sex" and sex-related terms (like "screw" and "fuck") to describe these non-intercourse actions, but if you want to be understood correctly, you have to explain what actually happened. (The exception is if you're a gay man and you say you had sex - people would assume you mean anal sex because they know your partner doesn't have a vagina.) You wouldn't call oral sex or dildo sex "sex", period.

Sex: copulation/coitus, vaginal intercourse

Sexual - adds the suffix -ual/-al which adds "of or pertaining to" sex and would include sex but also things pertaining to sex like arousal, orgasm, penetration, etc.

Virginity is not determined by someone kissing you, not considered on squeezing a girls boobs. Its about getting it, his genitals in hers. That's something that can't be done easily, it means something and the blood broken shows that. Sexual organs are just other body parts and kissing them cannot be any different than kissing any other body parts..intercourse is considered as sex because it is a defined act between 2 bodies for a specific purpose ..
