By definition, yes it is prostitution. It is their profession to engage in sex for money. Both actors are for hire, even though one person is not paying the other. Essentially, the consumers of the pornographic material are paying the actors to engage in sexual acts, even though it isn't with the consumer personally. Having sex for fun isn't prostitution because neither party is gaining monetary benefit (getting paid).

I think it more or less is a much more safe, much shiner version of prostitution. You're selling the sex you're filmed having to people for pleasure- and paying for sexual pleasure is more or less prostitution, I think.

I would personally say that they are being paid for the filming and distribution of said film of the sexual act, not the sexual act itself.

Side: No

The people aren't being paid to pleasure each other. They are being paid to produce a film. Actresses have been paid for decades to do nude/sex scenes in movies. Porn is just that with all the dialog and plot cut away. Plus prostitution is more accurately describes as soliciting sex, not just being paid for a sexual act.

Thank you for mentioning the word I was trying desperately to remember in my port; "soliciting."

Infact in the UK prostitution isn't actually illegal (although, it is about to become illegal), and it is infact the act of soliciting which is illegal. This is to try and make sure that those forced into prostitution aren't criminalised, and the people who actually pay for sex (and thus keep up demand) are.

For the sake of argument, lets say that the people getting paid for making pornos are in turn prostitutes. Well, if a couple made videos of themselves having sex for fun, that would technically be porno and definitely not prostitution. So by definition, pornography is not inherently prostitution.

fair enough. People who are paid for performing in a pornographic film are prostitutes. People who are not paid are not prostitutes by definition although it could be argued that their reward is an alternative to money.
